My norton is being stupid; my account got renewed when dad did his [ the cover for 3 computers thing they do].
So I open it up clicky clicky clicky;
Now!
I have 3 issues that need to be resolved and it won't do it, although the buttons are there "fix, clear" etc.

So I'm clicking these and nothing
Same errors pfft!

Virus definitions not up to date [although I've clicked the update about 300 times ]
Phishing protection- my browser is not set to detect fraudulent websites
Internet explorer temporary files - doesn't seem to clear; no matter how much I click clear.
Backup- takes absolutely ages, cba really; [not worried about it].

So, any tips and tricks to make it work

Any help appreciated

But it's been paid for, why would I use something free when I have already got this?

Not arguing.
Is norton really that bad?

Had it before with no issues; now it's being silly!

Norton isn't very good.

It takes up an awful lot of disk space and can't get rid of the simplest of problems.

I don't have anything installed and provided I stay off the mideget tranny porn I don't get any virus'

I got a new netbook today and the sales guy was really starting to piss me off with the tripe he was saying about how norton was the only decent antivirus and wanted £70 on top for it. People really need to be aware of Avast and AVG and save themselves the money and hassle

As long as you're sensible online you should be fine without any protection tbh.

Norton is for people who don't know what they're doing unfortunately.

If I get a virus, or feel something is playing up i'll download virus stuff then, but touch wood, it's not happened for years now

Same, Avast ftw.

There is literally nothing worse than Norton. It's almost a virus in itself in how it uses up far too many resources and slows your computer down.

Doesn't really slow me down. Quad core, 4GB RAM; I don't use the computer for much.
Avast was a pain in the a$$ when I was using it!

You'll notice the extra speed when you take it off mate. Just because you have 4 cores doesn't mean they're all being used all the time. Also I hope you have an x64 OS.

There are a couple of other good free AV's but I can't remember what they're called

Cheers all!
Think I've done it now.
Stupid thing.
Dave, I know about the cores, no I don't have a x64 OS I got vista premium that came with it, x32 I think.
Might be wrong, haven't paid much attention to computers lately.
Will get back into soon though.

Norton is the worst most annoying piece of software I've ever come across. I'd rather have a virus than have Norton.

I use F-Secure, mainly because I get it for free. It does the job well though. For a totally free virus scanner I've used Avast before and that does the job well too...

Reason people even have Norton is because Symantec have a stranglehold on the market. It's advertised everywhere, and people see it and instantly think it's the only AV out there worth buying.

Best thing you could do is uninstall it. Even the uninstall process can be a bitch sometimes.

Spot on mate, couldn't have put it better myself.

There is a Norton Removal Tool out there somewhere, Google it and it will be easy to find.

Any program that needs a special tool just to remove it properly is never good news
