Basically ive looked at a few now. I have got 3 in mind. Clio 182 Cup, Seat ibiza Cupra, and a Mk 4 Astra GSI.
Im not really clued up about the astra gsi, dont know what im looking for bar the obvious turbo whining cam belt and water pump done. The Ibiza Cupra is hard to find a standard one that hasnt been modifed. Getting some with high mileage now but have the work been done, so fairly confident as i know they are a strong engine.
Anyone got any other idea's whats on the market not after a corsa or saxo or pug!
Ive had a look at a Civic type r but they are a bit out of my budget. Not to sure about a lexus is200, Audi A3's i only like the facelift models, Leon Cupra r, im 50/50 on.
Basically im after a fast but standard sporty car.

see on the 182's i like the orange colour that they do or the red, something different from the common blue one. Thats why i was thinking about a cup

You should be able to get a civic type r for that. I paid 5k for mine when I got it

I would test drive one of each and see what you think of them.

Clio and civic are fun cars but you need to wind them up and get them on the boil to have your fun, but a great fun once your on the go

Astra and cupra will be more laid back and give you more staight line poke

The advantages of me having a clio would be that if anything went wrong i be able to sort it as i work at a renault dealer. But like every car they have the disadvantages..Its hard to find a car with everything you want

Assume you have driven one then. I really liked them but found the seating a bit high and im quite tall. hence the civic slightly having the edge

yea thats the downside to the clio as im tall as well. For what they are and how people slate renault cars they are good motors, we dont see them come in broken down in our dealership well its the same for all of the renault sport range as they are built in a different factory compared to the rest of the renault range

drive a ctr and see what you think, you will either be in the hate camp or like it

Something like this one looks tidy enough

I'd personally go for the turbo cars, more tuning potential for less £££ than the N/A cars.

The LCR will be a right dog for £5k so i'd give that a miss. The astras are very nice lookin cars but are pretty poor standard they go well from what i've read with a remap and a few other bits, just make sure its got the VXR turbo upgrade.

The Ibiza would be my choice having owned one. They come with there bad points to but there a bit older now and most of them will have had all the broken bits fixed and you can pick a nicely modded one up for £5k.

there is a thread further down the page that I posted in and so did some others of common things to look for. Yer they do hold value but people are over pricing them alot. There are a few out there like that one that are more realistic. Once with AC fetch more too as it was £1000 option

I had mine for just over a year and it only cost me a set of disks and pads and and two oil changes

parts are expensive but only as much as renaults but they dont need stuff often

Only thing you need to keep an eye on is oil level as they like to drink a bit every now and again due to the revvy nature of the engine.
