I have an M4 Carbine like this :
I purchased it 4 years ago at a cost of £230 iirc to go to airsoft games with the guys at my old work but left shortly after.
Its only been used a few times to shoot my brother (dressed as an Iraqi) and is pretty much an ornament in my bed room now.
I have 2 mags for it, but dont think I can find the charger. You can pick up a generic charger for about £10 though.
Not the kind of thing you can list on ebay these days or I would have sold it.
If anyone wants any pics etc or wants to make an offer u2u me

I used to a few years ago, back then Tokyo Marui were the best guns on the market. Not sure if you can get them imported any more though.

What do airsoft guns actually fire? does it hurt when you get hit?

6mm plastic BB's - usually the heavyweight 0.25's. They smart like fuck as most competition guns fire at a rate of at least 320fps

They dont really hurt if you have jeans on and a little bit of protection from clothing, light weight ammo means they fly fast and hit with a small impact.
Dont know what your allowed to wear in competitions though.
I would go for a spring rifle with undercocking action.
I had 2 electric guns p90 and a m4 also they was only cheap ones £30 but did the job, I also had an electric m4 that was £215 Tokyo Marui model was no better then the £30 m4
I had few about 15-20 different ones inc spring, electric and gas, M16 spring with uncocking was the best and a 24shot gas revolover but they can freeze up a lot so not so reliable.

my brother wrapped towels around his head and wrapped himself in layers of bubblewrap and pretended to be an Iraqi. I squeezed of a few rounds from about 20 feet a way and he starting screaming "aarrgghhh it goes straight through"

How did I miss this?
Best place for guns IMO is
www.airsoftarmoury.co.uk
Like Dizzy said over the last few years Marui have been the best but I'm not sure what has happened as not a lot of places in the UK stock them anymore, most be issues with importing them
Classic Army are better all round guns as they tend to be made of better materials but thats reflected in the price.
I have 3 guns
M4A1
G36C with the Smokeys foregrip to take large type batteries, 9.6v 3000mh fires 1200 rounds a minute that thing, mental.
AK47, simple, straight forward large magazine, large battery can put down serious amounts of fire with it as the mags don't tend to need a lot of winding, good support weapon really.

You're going to need to get registered as well to a skirmish site as well before you can buy bb guns now though, I've got the paperwork right in front of me, has been in front of me for 2 years but haven't sent it off as I haven't been skirmishing or needed to buy a gun.
Just to finish, best beginner gun is usually anything from the Armalite range or Kalashnikov, something with a big battery so you don't need to keep replacing them
So your looking for something with a solid stock
AK47 solid stock
M16 Vietnam Version
M16 A2
M16 Knights Edition
I loved the look of the Vietnam version with the shorter 190 round magazine but I think it's been discontinued.
