A mate of mine has just got a new car but is taking the tuning box of it and offered me it for my ibiza 1.9tdi. I went on there website and so called i should get around 165 bhp and more torque. Has anybody used one before? Are they any good? Also its of his 110bhp audi a3 so would it work ok? Do you just unplug it and then plug it in the cars ecu? Sorry bout the questions lads but i aint to clued up on this

I've got one on my astra, makes a massive difference on that engine.
For the 1.9tdi I'd recommend a £100 postal remap from ebay instead though.

The box will be ok but on that engine a remap is a better and cheaper option.
That one is fine, the only downfall is you are without a car for a couple of days while it's away, I know not everybody will be able to do that.

ah right so you take you're ecu off then send it to them? And then they send it back to you once its done? seems like you get better gains by using them, so i think il do that cheers john

I wouldn't take any of the bhp gains as gospel, but the postal remap service will work. There's enough places that do it in our area not to warrant posting your ECU off tho, cheaper too. Have a shop around.

I think Kano got one for his Astra and he found the results impressive. They do sound good gains it's just whether they live up to what they promise.

I had a DTUK box on my CDTI 150. It produced just over 200bhp on rollers. I also know Andrew who owns DTUK and he's a sound guy. Well worth dealing with.

Ben how much did the box increase your insurance?
How did you explain what it was?

Errrm...can't remember tbh....I was using Adrian Flux at the time who were aware of tuning boxes etc so they understood what it was. Wasn't massive.
Alot of people don't declare them because they can be removed in about 1 minute. I wasn't willing to risk it!!

i have one on the BMW and it makes a huge difference
Never had it on a rolling road but they state around 215 BHP
My car went in for a service and they found a fuel pressure sensor and oil pressure sensor in default being faulty - not sure if this was down to the box but they replaced under warranty and box is back on lol

I've got an eco 3 on my astra and its brilliant. Used to think it made it smoke even on its low setting but turnewd out to be the car just needing a good kicking because of the woman owner before us.
I've had it on 6 months now and had no issues apart from it giving me a heavy right foot.

had one on the last astra and made a great difference, most insurance company's acept it as a fuel saving device, which it will be if driven sensable, defeats the purpose though

How many of you have had them rolling roaded with the box on ?
Mine was 113.5 Standard
Made 122 with tuning box
Binned the tuning box and iirc it made 134 after being remapped.
In my opinion get it mapped on rollers, you will get far more from it for not much more wonga.

The vauxhall 1.9cdti 150's get just over 200 almost every time on the rolling road, they respond really well to them for some reason.
On the 1.9tdi vw engine a map is best though, especially for £100 quid.

depends on the box really, a lot of people buy cheaper ones from ebay from companys who dont really have much of a reputation, where as DTUK have a very good reputation and also consistent results on the RR

its a hard decision, iv been offered this for 200 but i can get the postal remap for 100 quid and by the looks of it more of a response from the car but then i need to send it off etc but i doubt its alot of work to put it back in

I doubt a generic remap will give you more power than the box, they're effectively doing the same thing, adjusting boost, fuel, timing, etc. to a higher level they know the car will tolerate without throwing a wobbler.
Like I said, don't go off quoted figures. They'll all produce very similar results, unless you have a proper session on an RR, which will cost more than either of the above.

timing on a derv alot of them just plug in to the fuel rail and only adjust fuel pressure, not boost.
remaps are better.
