Looking into getting a corsa vxr soon possibly. Local Vauxhall dealer are selling 59 plate Opel OPC corsa's for £11995
I know I few on here have had corsa's (Ojc?) and some till do have (Rcoughtrie) and others have experience with them. Whats everyones opinion on them? Or am I better off getting an astra vxr?
Did a wee bit of reading on vxr online about the piston no.4 issue and a few cars (tuned and standard) have had the problem with the piston cracking. Also read though that treating the car right and letting it warm up / cool down when necessary you should be ok. Once case I read of the car had been mapped by courtenay for 25k miles then piston 4 went due to a faulty lambda sensor. And anyone know what Vauxhalls doing about it if the cars still under warranty?
Il await posts from the likes of Warren G and other vauxhall gurus!
Also Eck's brother has one iirc?

i have one
One thing that I can confirm is - very shite on fuel - struggle to get 30mpg from a tank
Nice car to drive, good seats but quite a harsh ride
Exhaust is quite loud and pops and bangs if you like that sort of thing
Nice car though - just dont expect it to be economical

Currently driving an Ibiza FR TDi so going to be a hit economy wise
But I dont need to do big miles, work offshore so dont need to travel to work or that.
Reading on VXR online that driven sensible can return 35 mpg, and it goes downhill depending how heavy your foot is.

good up to 60. the astra will be far superior above that, obviously due to the higher capacity engine and more power as standard.

Heh im looking into getting one aswell
If your 6'4"+ then the corsa is better than the astra. Somewhere either regal or someone else does the piston 4 replacement service for £600 all in.
I just need to look into the best way to fund one (finance, loan or some other way)

I've never driven a Corsa VXR but i'd say if your budget allows, get the Astra VXR. More car for your money. Alot of people who have Corsa VXR's seem to want an Astra VXR after a short while.
If you do go for a Corsa tho, look at the Arctic Edition.

I wouldnt worry about it blowing up if you drive it properly and dont do silly things like take it to stage 2/3 and use 95 RON fuel, keep the standard plugs and hammer it from cold

First of all, Corsa is horrendous on fuel, as an example I can make it from Calais to Nurburgring (aprox 300 miles) in the Astra without a fuel stop with a variety of driving.
The Corsa needed 3 stops to top up, at speed it drinks, fast!
Out of the box it's far more nimble than the Astra, but start to fettle with the Astra and the Astra is the all round better car, I can bet you that after 6 months you will want an Astra VXR.
Piston 4 issue is from people using 95RON fuel and not warming them up properly and even then it's a very small percentage of people that are having this issue.
If you buy one with warranty still intact, get it mapped by Thorney that way you won't risk voiding you warranty and make sure you use all their parts and run it on 99RON fuel.

What plugs are best for them Ollie? Ive heard the standards are utter wank and iridum are the way to go but obv thats from people on VXROnline where quite a few are missing a few brain cells...
Im on about Astra btw but corsa would no doubt be the same..

a bit off topic but anyway, one of those silver lightening astra vxr's drove past me yesterday, looked so nice.
he was a chav though, kept revving up in basildon whenever there were 12 year old slags walking down the street.

Arctic 5000miles £15k
Arden blue 20,000miles £12k
But
Torque or the devil site brand new for 12k! not sure how they can offer such a low price tbh.
The corsa should run about 35mpg if driven sensibly

Standard plugs are fine, people buy them thinking they are going to add BHP on VXRonline, it's just another mod to for them to put in their signature.
They only foul up if you don't use the right fuel.

What are the Astra's like for fuel Ollie? ie miles to £20 with quick ish driving? Sounds daft but i get 80 miles in the scooby for £20 and i think if it was more like 110 in the Astra i'd be wanting one.

my brother has got an arden blue corsa vxr. Its got 40k on it now with him owning it from new. They are awsome cars out of the box. The cheapest, best mod you can do to them is take the pre cat off. He's got a thorney bluefin to put on it in the morning so will be good to see the difference. He can get 36mpg doing 70mph on cruise control and when you give it the beans it goes down to 7mpg. Lol.

i wasnt going to reply, but you had my name
engines are no where near as strong as the astra vxr, as said, there have been serveral failuires on no.4 piston WHEN REMAPPED
this is due to fueling problems/weak pistons (no.4 doesnt get enough fuel i believe)
vauxhall no about this issue and have the ecu sent off for checking, along with oil and fuel samples...
I have mapped 3 of these (222bhp/220lbft) in standard form stage one. and they go very well once mapped, and havent had any issues with any of ours
but its a corsa, seats are loverly, but just dont seem as well built as an astra. astra vxr over corsa vxr anyday of the week
