why just french?

go for the best spec of car you can get (not leather etc but cage/buckets/brakes etc)

A 205GTi for 2k should be fully track ready.

If you arent going all out and want a 'track car' that is more a road car I'd suggest a 106 16v and take it from there.

I say you get a mk1 phase 1 Clio 1.8 16v they stick to the road like glue or a williams because it comes with a wider track, plus you can tune the fuck out of them

I voted 205 but i'd be between that and a 106, we all know how good 106 gti's are in the twistys

Citroen ZX 16v if you can find one or a 306 S16, pretty much the same car.

VTS

cheaper then the 106 gti to buy and the same car for what you want it for

My 2000 one I got for £1200 and is track ready barring a cage and stripped out.
breathing mods and running 140bhp
bilstien B12 suspension
gti6 brakes
quaife diff
not much more needed for a fun track car imo
I bought a quaife for it and its still under the £2000 threshold

Ph1 172 is also a very good shout with a bit more power. But parts are alot more expensive and a bit more fiddly to work on.

Even I can take my vts apart and put it back together

According to the guys on ax owners club theres a fairly big difference in weight, cant see why though tbh. I used to own an ax 1.0 a few years ago and if a couple of scrawny teens (me and my mate) could lift the rear end completely of the ground they cant be that heavy?

just compared the unladen weight of an ax 1.1 according axoc which is 691kg as opposed to 805kg for a saxo 1.1 according to parkers. Thats a difference of 114kg pretty hefty if you ask me.

hmm yer that is quite a bit, just wondered how much or it is air bags electric windows and other newer car things.

I would rather the saxo though, im scared enough of hitting a coke can in the saxo yet alone having anything more paper like

They are ever so slightly flimsy. Im not sure where the extra weight comes from tbh must be like you said airbags, leccy windows, power steering...
