It's almost 'fun' when you become used to it. I'm entering some 10k's and half marathons this year, for the first time too.

When you find your pace running IS quite enjoyable.
Pick a distance and run as much of it as you can. If you're running outside and not on a treadmill you'll feel a dick walking so it'll encourage you to keep going
Edit - and a decent pair of trainers is essential!

Deffo! Proper ones at that, not the flashiest pair you can find in JD Sports which look like they might be good.

Indeed. My mates hate my Mizuno's but they aren't meant as a trendy fashion accessory!

I was always told that unless they're on sale, anything under £60 isn't worth having!

Sports World/Direct sell cheap proper ones. Just need to work out what kind of step you have.

Agreed. Don't have to be expensive either, it's only really the new technology ones that are dear. I've a pair of asics look proper shit but do the job.
Also stick with it, it is amazing how much you will progess in a short space of time. I really need to get out a bit more, just waiting for the weather to pick up a bit.

You will be surprised how quickly you will improve. I started a couple of months back and was running 2.5k and i was fucked. Coughing loads after and not really enjoying it. Now iv got a little 5k route and im starting to look forward to getting out when im driving back from work.

When I first started at the gym my mate could barely muster a 1km on the treadmill. He can now do 2.2km in 11mins. He shocked himself at how much easier it gets the more you do it.

Running on a treadmill is harder too as you can get bored, out running you get a change of scenery and have to concentrate at junctions. Makes a big differance to stamina/endurance.

Agree'd. I find it easier on the road as I keep saying "just do to the next lamp post!". Plus, if you run 2miles in one direction you HAVE to walk/run home
