hey all im just wondering, im getting round to spraying the hole side of my car now (because of the smash) but im just wondering what i need to do to prepare it?? iv scotched most of the side down no just gonna give it anorther once over then can i just get the coulour and spray the hole side or is best to put the primer on ? because i did get told that if there is paint already underneth and its not damaged paint then i can spray over t only if i scotch it down first is this true?? also how do i get the trim off the window ?? does it just pull off ??? let me no asap people cheers

trim on rear quarter windows will be attached to the sealer holding the window in normally.

but can i lift that up and use that proper trim tape with the lip on so it will go underneath that ?? my tutor showed me some trim tape but havent got a clue were to get it from its got like a stiff lip on it so it fits inder trim and stuff

lift it up push wire down the gap then tape it of..paint will get right under unmask pull wire out carefully jobs a gooden

yep, this is true
just make sure that you have scotched it down well and proper, the paint should look dull, make sure there are no shiny bits and be sure to clean the surface thouroughly before spraying (panel wipe and some kitchen roll will be great for that)

yh gonna go and get me some proper panel wipe tomoz and get me some more scotch pads, and were would i get a roll of the paper they use, i was gonna ask the colage but teacher was in a fucking mood lol

Search for bodyshop supplies on google, theres about 3-4 decent ones that sell all the bits

that soft edge masking tape isent that for like the doors and stuff|?? like you put a strip of it all round the door then when you close it makes kind of a seal to stop paint getting into your doors and into the car

and how much paint you think id need to spray the hole one side ?? ya think half a litre would do it ?? so half litre of star silver and half litre of laquer?

should be plenty tbh depending on how you apply it..yeah soft edge is for door shuts you flat the odl paint back in the shut stick it along then when you unmask and flat and polish it leaves no edge

ok mate cheers and hopefully this will be good lol iv been doing it for a year now at collage iv sprayed cars and that but its a hole new thing when its your own lol think it will just make me take my time more i think noing its me who is gonna be driving it

will do mate there some pics somewere on here of what it looked like when it was smashed and then after when id sorted it out just gotta spray it now so hopefully turns out alright

what are you goign to use 2k base or waterbased? i take it your going edge to edge? if it was smashed how do you not need primer? or have you changed panels on it show us pics mate

it was the back quarter mate i knocked it out as much as i could and then gave it a skim of filler , then i primerd it, now im just gonna scotch down the rest of the side and primer the bits what need doing and then the rest just spray and ill get some pics two secounds

have you been taught how to blend?? if its only the rear qurter you wont need to do the whole side..do not use a scotch! lol show me soem pics mate

i no what a scotch is ive been painting years..
is there any minor damage eg scuffs scratches you want to get rid of on the door and fron wing?? if not ill tell u what you need to do

yh mate iv been tought how to blend but iv spoken to my teacher and a few body repair and spray people and they have all said i will have to spray the hole side mate , because the coulour match, new and old paint like, id rather just spray the hole side anyway atleast then i no its all new fresh paint

na mate tbh there isent any major damage just that ^^^^ but ther is a tad of rust on the door witch has lifted the paint abit
