Time is done in units, we used metric (don't we?)
As with sizing mm, etc, without the industrial revolution wouldn't of happened. We needed to agree set numbers, hence we use a system.

Laws of physics are actually being proven wrong just now, by quontom theory isn't it? The laws are based on what we know so far, it's still largly a theory.

The chicken evolved from another type of bird (which evolved from another type, etc. all the way back to a single celled organism).

So technically the bird that wasnt called a chicken laid an egg, and the new evolved bird that was born from it (a chicken) hatched.
