that is basically what I was saying...
if the required work can be completed by a competant DIY mechanic then drive it home, that is where the MOT work "will" be done.

if it hasn't got a valid mot your insurance is not valid so you cannot drive it home no, you will have to trailer it, otherwise you could just drive a car round with no mot and just say sorry officer im on the way to fix it, doesn't work like that

^That is why you have to be able to PROVE your on your way to do the work.
Insurance is void if you drive to the MOT place when the car has run out of MOT.

Unless the cop is a twat about it and you get charged for driving with no insurance (as will be invalid with no mot), and get 6 points.
Or you could have a smash...then you'd be screwed.

On another note. If you MOT your car before the MOT expires (Say within a month of the expiry date) Is the car technically still MOT'd for the month or is there no MOT on it as the car failed its next MOT?

^ If it fails then the remaining MOT is void.

Wrong.
If it expires on the 1st April and you take it on the 3rd March and it fails, you can still drive it till the 1st April

I always thought that you could drive it home from the test station as well.
You can only go straight there and straight back, but you are allowed dispensation to present and return the car.
I may be wrong and I will check that at some point, but that has always been my understanding.
You can also have the car tested while there is currently valid MOT on it.
