Has anyone ever had any experience with these? Compressor seals are shot on my Megane so I took the plunge and bought a copy from a reputable seller, £208 v's £800+.. The build quality and finish looks spot-on! I'm just feeling slightly paranoid about how long its going to last

I've seen some of the XS power stuff etc. and it looks tacky as hell! The finish is bad and you can tell its been cast in an old sand-pit lol! This one I just bought has seriously impressed me.

Well Nic, I just assmed a chinese copy would have bad casting marks all over it, and no QC markings.

Here we are:

Thought I would just share this with you about how cutting corners can cost more in the long run.

My mate has been building a reverse manifold conversion on a customers classic scooby. All the bits supplied by the customer, sourced from here there and everywhere (second hand, ebay etc).
Anyway after a lot of hard work (nothing fitted first time) the car was finished and put on the dyno for a certain Mr Andy Forrest to map. Everything was going great (car peaked at 358bhp) when the car suddenly started losing boost. Andy immediately stopped the car and announced that something serious has given up the ghost.

Well late last night I gave him a hand to strip the turbo etc off the car - I took the down pipe off and about half a litre of water came out (not a good start) and then we removed the hot side intercooler pipe, it was full of oil. Eventually we got the turbo off - first thing we noticed was the intake impeller was missing as was the intake side of the shaft. Now at that point we started worrying about where the impeller had gone too. Taking an endescope we eventually found a whole load of shreded bits lying in the bottom of the intercooler but no shaft or impeller. We stripped the turbo and found the shaft and circlip inside the turbo and after a min or so we found what remained of the impeller back up the air intake pipe between the MAF and the turbo housing.

I have attached a couple of pics (poor quality Iphone pics - sorry).

Up shot is

One cheap copy turbo from foregin site = £250

Cost

One new turbo from Andy Forrest = £850
Labour = God knows not finished yet
Custom intercooler will need to be cut opened up, all debris removed and rewelded = Unknown yet.

Just thought I would share.

Ouch! I read a thread about an XS power turbo that was held together with glue! That compressor turbine looks like a similar cast turbine to the one that was on the XS power turbo.

Looks like its been cast in a Cats Litter Tray because they were too tight to use sand.

Nowhere near as smooth as any Turbos i've played with over here.
