Hi Team,

55K Mile Service is coming up on my 2002 Audi TT 225 - Anyone know what I should get done? Just trying to budget!

So far I know it needs new brake pads as the computer told me so

Any help greatly appreciated!

depends on if it had everything it needed at 40k and its previous history

worst case senario:

Full inspection with oil, pollen, and air filters spark plugs also (40k / 4 years)
haldex oil and filter change every 40k
brake fluid change every 2 years
air-con service every 2 years

you may or may not get advised a timing belt change (audi are now apparently advising it every 5 years)

Brake pad warning could just be a broken connection on the pad sensor, seems a common problem.

60k is cambelt, replace the waterpump at same time as that's the weak part.

Haldex oil and filter is every 40k so see if that was done previous services!

Oil and filter
Cambelt and Waterpump

Well I know an oil change is no longer part of a service if you take your car into a main dealer

5 years or 105k according to Audi.

At 55 it should be coming up to an intermediate service, oil and filter and pollen filter change at that one, should cost around £130 at an independent specialist.

Check the book, see if the haldex oil has been done too, will be around £100 for the oil and filter and it's strongly recommended.

I'd suggest gearbox oil too, regardless of Audi saying it's sealed for life, you'll probably pay £65 for that, or thereabouts

As Matt says, brake fluid every 2 years at about £45.

Don't go to a main dealer, you'll pay crazy prices when you can get genuine parts from a decent specialist, there's one in Edinburgh, can't remember his name though.

It's not, Audi changed it, they've been 60, 75, 80 or 105k intervals.

Ok fair enough, afaik it was changed from 80k to 60k on the S3 with the same engine. That being said you would have to be mental to leave it until 105k

I wouldn't leave it 105k. The intervals are different for the same engine in different cars too, with the same cam belt kit. Very odd.

they just changed it because they can fail at around 60k. guy on the seatcupra site had one go at 56k on his LCR.

my 225 1.8T is definitely going to get a new one (and water pump) this year.

indeed, they can apparently go to 120k in the golf iirc... i've seen water pumps sieze at 90k, tensioners and rollers on other engines going at 80 odd..

anyways, if the cambelt does get done i would STRONGLY reccomend the water pump is renewed at the same time

2 weeks ago I was still working at a VW/Audi specialist, hadn't changed then, just depends on the car.

I'd have the water pump done with the cam belt as Matt says, without a doubt, no extra labour.

Main dealer i used to work for charge and additional half hour! at £119 + VAT per hour it was a farce!
Where i do it now, its part of the cambelt kit and no extra labour

i know what you're saying. the official belt change is specific to every car.... (120k for golf gti 1.8t)

BUT the dealers recommend it earlier and a lot are now saying 60 or 80k or 5 years.
my seat dealer actually says 4 years.

after reading a few threads about failures i think i'm gonna get mine done on 6 years use.

Was it not 105k km..... roughly 65k miles.
I changed mine at 70k and it had some nice deep grooves on the outside of the belt.

Anyone on here done a belt on one of these? I'm a mechanic but I don't know if I can be arsed doing it myself so could get someone else at my dads place to do it, is it a bad job or they not too bad to change? On my S3 by the way.

Thanks very much lads!

Most useful! The brake pads were a heads up at MOT Time so I'm guessing they are now worn down. It had a full service in September 08, So to recap what I need:

Brake Pads + Brake fluid
Haldex Oil Change + Filter
Cam Belt + Water Pump
Gearbox oil
Spark plugs

Robin, thanks for the help. Wotherspoon Audi is perhaps the place your thinking of?

About 2.5 hours if you have the right tools, VAG cam locking stuff is essential, makes it so much easier, Sealey do it cheaper than VAG.

That's the fella Stu, he seems to know his stuff, had some dealings with him in my last job, he's the only person in the UK to give up his 'Audi approved' status by choice as they wouldn't help him with diagnostic equipment.
