Thats my airbox drilled and back in place! So good.

Ive drilled about 15 smallish holes, cleaned it out aswel cos it was a bit manky. Dryed with a hair dryer (you can dry anything with them things ... such a tool!)

I get such an awsome sound from it now..so low and heartly.

Such a small mod I know but its my first, and so satisfying!

Thanks for all the advise.

P.S. What difference will the aftermarket filter make? Will it sound even better?

yup left hand side and its the bottom of the air box u drill not the top.
drill as many holes as possably without causing the structure of the air box to become really flexable etc

Yeah dont drill the top cos that would bypass the filter (youll see when you take the lid off)

I put about six on the left hand side, 2 on the bottom very close to the left, and 3 on the left corner (its a sloped corner).

It seems deep through the rev range. Not been able to test that properly though as my car limited to about 4 thousand revs at the mo

Yeah it is the black outer box u drill, It took me about 20 mins altogether but that included giving it a good clean.

I'll try and gets some pics on here 2morow.

Hoping the new filter makes it louder as its a lot louder with the bonnet up - obviously.

I am having to do it soon, not happy to do it but insurance has just stung me and want the sound without the increased premiums.

Dunno if there is any difference with a K&N panel filter or something.

Havent bought one yet..should get it 2morow, looking at maybe a K&N? Anyone suggest a better panel filter?

My Girlfriends just text me to say she could here it when I pulled away from her house, glad to know people outside can here it

It may be in my head but I have to say it does seem to have more breath when pulling away now.

Surely a proper induction kit has got to be better than a few holes?? IMO

For performance yes, but getting the sound without the extra insurance premium is a very good lure.

I am getting rid of my K&N 57i because it cost £350 to cover an induction kit and nothing to cover a drilled air box.

sxi_welshy_boy = on any other car yes, on a corsa no, it will be detremental to ur cars performance

why, because with the induction kit u have no heat shielding from the engine, so ur sucking in hot air, with a drilled box u get good air flow, sound whilst the air still being relativly cold compared with an induction kit

And insurance man wont rape your arse for it either. Get a K&N panel filter as these flow more air than OE GM stuff.

I have already done this, as advised by TotalVauxhall:
In the bottom left corner (nearest headlight and wing) make a large hole, about 50-60mm diameter. From this, run a piece of pipe to anywhere, preferably just below the headlight. This is because there is either a low or high pressure (can't remember which) area about here, so you will get more cold air being sucked into the box.
Hope it all works out good. And K&N is a good choice!

A large hole will give a deep resonating sound when accelerating. Lots of small holes will create a raspy, LOUD sound.
