Pretty much how I expected Mg ownership to be tbh

Cack

Head gasket is gone already, it was done via the main dealer 10k ago with reciepts.

But alas I will be doing it again this weekend

Anyone know which kit to get for the head?

There's so many, I keep being directed to the ZR 120 head set, but mines is a 160bhp trophy model, K series, not VVC afaik

pics

But to be fair it's a hell of a lot of car for £800

I'm an mg owner and have been one for the past 2 years.Never had one have Hgf on me.I believe its the driver.aluminium heads are their downfall as if you give them shit from cold they dont agree

best thing to do though is get the mls kit.its about £50 max for the lot and very trusty

here is a good kit but its £110

http://shop.xpowerforums.com/shop/8_177/mg_rover/mg_zr__rover_25/gaskets/head_gasket_set_-_inc._shimmied_head_gasket.htm

where as you can get this kit on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MGF-MGTF-MGZR-25-UPRATED-HEAD-GASKET-SET-BOLTS-VVC_W0QQitemZ200434703207QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2eaad6db67

for half the price

always look for MLS or Kinger gasket sets.

The one you have now you had to replace the HG on Mark

Hasn't had it's arse kicked from cold it's a really poor design,

It's the lightest 4 cylinder engine produced to date, and in keeping with this the whole coolant system only holds 3litres of fluid.

There is no tolerance for useage etc, so unless it's checked every 3 days your in serious danger of running it with low flud thus melting the gasket again.

I'm just gonna fix this one up, tidy it up and flog it on, nothing else wrong with it, and I'll probably get the uprated gasket, so whoever buys it will have a more reliable one than standard

Yours is the vvc mate...the 160bhp is the vvc model because it has the 2 cambelts..one either side.

my old gasket was still mint.I ended up getting my history for the car through the post and it had been done 20k ago so im glad i changed it anyway

Loads of engines have ally heads, I cant think of any that suffer from masses of head gasket problems like Rovers. Shit built quality is the problem.

ShEp make sure you buy the multi layer gasket kit.the old gasket was a one layer kit but the new layer kit solves the HGF issues these engines have.Have you not got a garentee with the previous hg change?

I would be questioning the garage it was done at first instead of paying out your own money

If you need any more help drop me a u2u and i will help you as much as i can

Was done at the main dealer, will give them a tinkle but I'm the new owner so I doubt a warranty would extend to me.
