Had an overheat problem on my daughters 1.4 Corsa..thermostat was stuck shut. Its been replaced (pig of a job!) and the temp guage sensor replaced aswell as the Fan temp sensor too. All Vauxhall bits.
Anyway, when the car sits still for a while the temp rises up to 100'C on the guage before the fan cuts in and cools it again down to 96'C before it cuts out. It's fine when running normally, sits about 92'C and isn't overheating anyway..but curious if 100'C is too high before the fan cuts in or is it normal? Thanx in advance.

although mine is a Turbo diesel the fan also cuts in at around 100 and cuts off around 95, so that sounds about right. I know what u mean though cause i thought it was going a bit too far up the guage before it cut in aswell.

Saying that, i dont think my thermostat is fully open till around 100 anyway.

why would that be dixon? i wouldn't have thought so! Palwing said it runs okay when driven so it wouldnt hav gone :/
anyway mine cuts in about 97oC, i think the edge of the red is about 105oC isnt it? as long as it isnt in the red before the fan cuts in. if it was a non-GM stat then i would say get a vaux/GM stat, but as it is, dont worry!

I had an ECU reader on a 1.4 spi 8 valve and the fan came in at 106 and cooled it down to 94 to 96.

My 1.4 sport is about the same on the gauge but i havent had it plugged in yet.

My old 1.2 used to kick in when it reached the red, which was over 100, then it would cool quickly. It would only do this if stationary. My 1.6 Sport has not gone above the half way mark yet since i have had it!

My 1.2 8v only has the fan to cut in at 100c and then turns off again at about 95, doesnt matter the temp going to 100 higher is bad though so it dont need to kit in because 100 is the top, if it cut in before it would never hit 100 so the limiter may as well be earlier.

Every corsa has the same temp sensor set to switch on the fan at 100 and switch it off at 95. Every corsa whether its a diesel, merit or gsi is the SAME.

My fan turns on just under 100, cools it down to 95 then back up to 100 and so on. Mines a 1.4 aswell so you have no worries as everyones does the same.
Corsas tend to run at quite high temperatures i think, it really annoys me. I was thinking that how do all these foreigners cope coz there temperature must be in the 100's all the time

Opels in hotter countries tend to have more sensitive thermistors and thermostats which kick the fan in sooner than normal when the going gets hot.

yeah exactly mate its the inaccuracy of everyones gagues, or their reading of them that makes evryone think they r cuttin in at different temperatures! Unless of course there actually is somethin wrong with ya car!

If the ECU says its 106 then there is no inaccuraccy with the reading. I wasnt taking a readin g from the gauge but the ECU itself.
