Off on an adventure with some mates tomorow to ride the south downs way trail from Winchester to Eastbourne
looks like we are going to get very wet looking at the weather forcast
Should be a laugh though
around 110 miles I think
Prepped the bike today
New set of maxxis shoes and new jagwire cables, forgot how smooth and crisp xtr is when its all fresh
Even put a layer of colonite wax on the frame while it was properly clean to hopefully all the shit should wash off easier this time. Although I have swirls in the clearcoat over the carbon so detailing world wouldnt aprove
As it looked like this the other week

110 miles will be a massive challenge.
My dad did the London to Brighton but off road. Something like 90 miles. They did it in about 12 - 14 hours and were completely fucked by the end.
Take plenty of money to top up your Camelbak and work out where local petrol stations etc are.
Good luck though I could do with a biking adventure like that.

Sounds like a plan if you are buying dinner
Should be alright as I just remembered we did 107 miles on that over night endurance race I did in grizdale forest. And that was over about 11 hours.

Do the South Downs in the dark I was production manager for Exposure Lights a few years back and used to help run their event there, the MaXx Exposure.
Also worked with the guy who helped start set the South Downs Double record and attempts - ie. the South Downs way there and back in an aim of 24 hours lol.

That sounds like a bit of an epic ride
What do you make of those tyres? I could do with some better ones.
Had Bontrager ones on as standard but took them off as they were rubbish and put Continental Speed Kings on which are better but still not ideal. They dont have enough support at the edge of the tyre when leaning over. Shredded some of the rear tyres tread blocks riding in Scotland a couple of weeks ago too so they are getting a bit passed their best

Today was the first use of em. Impressed with the grip and they roll well. Sidewalls arnt that thick and i did get a puncture from a thorn today. Had conti mountain kings before. That had a better profile and were thicker. These grip better but at 14 quid a pop they are good for the money
Thick i under estimated this ride. Its very very steep with epic climbs and bone shaking decents. Ah well 56 miles down and now in a posh hotel bar sipping stella awaiting an epic portion of ham egg and chips

Good stuff! Seriously hard on a mountainbike, i struggle to do 20miles in trail centers!
The maxxis was a good choice!
Few lads in the bike shop i work in go and do 100 miles on every day off they have (bloody roadies)

Maxxis tyres at the moment are supposed to be very good.
But my brand of choice is Schwalbe. Every single one of their tyres seem to be spot on. My XC bike is more of an all-mountain so I don't tend to go thinner than 2.1

Yer these are 2.1s had high rollers before which were good but were a bit shallow and wanted something with a bit more bite as its still a bit gloopy. Dinner was ace proper local fresh produce. Was skinning a deer when we arrived
