Pannel gaps....

Get a magnet and run it around the pannels to see if there is any filler. Stick it under a petrol station forcourt at night, this will highlight if anything has been sprayed/altered.

on mine the front slam panel paint is remarkably shiny and rust free, also my engine was covered in a creamy brown film, i know its had a smash but wasnt told it had when i bought as on the wings you can see where they have been resprayed round the indicator hole, i assume the film is from when the radiator was burst and sprayed stuff all over the hot engine thus baking it on, also the outside temp sensor was hanging free where it should be on the bar down the middle in front of the rad (some corsas dont have it)

the brown flm you speak of is normal I think mate. Mine and my mates had it. i've been told it's something to do with when they were brand new. To either prevent any damage in transit or to make them look all shiney. Like a wax. I removed most of it from mine using a steam cleaner.
