as above top nut literally spins around but dont come undone.

you need to hold the center bit with an allen key usually

theres no hole for an allen key at the top? Tried tightening it and no joy.... Jus spins that way (the whole top section of shock spins when i try undo the top bolt) cant think of how to get it off? I need it off for new shock?

If its an old shock you dont want to re-use... Grip the piston with some mole grips.

Use a spanner and grip the top of the strut thread with some grips

OR usea trusty angle grinder like i did on this tigra..

should be a piece in the middle to get a 7mm spanner on nd hold it while you turn the nut with a spanner

LOL ok no worries ile try grip it before resortin to grinder, will i have this problem when trying to tighten new shocks i mean will it just spin around and me have to hhold the middle some how?

Aye will spin with new shock.. Best bet be get a ratchet spanner and some good mole grips.

As spikedjack said, they usually have some way of steadying the piston (using a smaller spanner/allen key). Unfortunately when they've had a few years use and you're trying to undo them they tend to round off with ease so for undoing it's not usually an option but should be ok for tightening up

defo a allen key n a spanner mate.if u cant do that then get sum1 to grip the pole inside the shocky with mole grips and u loosen it from the top.also clean the remainin threeds n apply sum wd40 if nessecary lol

bugga lol y cant they make it easy lol so then when i have raised car i put a jack under the rear beam then i lower the rear beam and spring falls out and i put my new shortened spring and shock in job done?

I'd take the 17mm nuts off the bottom of the struts out befopre the top ones... but thats just me... Yes the springs just fall out :-)

ok ile give it a go. If i deffo cant budge the bolt the angle grinder is comin out. Ile let you know how i get on.... Cheers

Defo use 2 spanners or mole grips and a spanner, mine come undone fairly easy using 2 spanners.

If you dont have access to a bop bop gun or a grinder, COAT the nuts and thread in WD40 and leave it over night.

Id use mole grips on the top then loosen the nut

Get some mole grips with a bit of cloth on the shock, soak the top nut on the top with WD40 or something stronger for a while, then try and shock it of with a long spanner etc.

Had to do this the other week on an E30, with a mate who works at Spax. Worked a treat!
