Mark - Melissa has suggested a Signum but i think they are little big for me or they look bigger than they probably are if you get me.

i've got the signum its the same size as a vec c, and nearly all of em are well spec'd
my 2.2dti gets over 50mpg quite easily

most of them come with black leather, for some reason who ever ordered mine wanted the cream leather memory seats

Cream is definitely not practical!

£4-5k I'd be looking at reasonably high spec Ford, VAG or Vauxhall probably.

I'd rather a Signum over a Vectra any day it has to be said. You can get mega spec on them for not much monies too as they tried hard with that car but it flopped so they're worth fook all

Vectra estates feel alot bigger anyway. Just get an Astra if a Vectra is too big.
