I shit you fucking not, it's been here two days as mum and dad renovate a bathroom and 3 lots of pikies have been around having stuff out of it.

I know copper is worth a lot, but a bit about 30cm long isn't going to buy you a holiday in the Bahamas.

Then I threw a set of old Nova steel wheels in there today, another one is here now taking them away.

Hes just seen a worn out pair of Makita workman shoes and hes having them.

I imagine later in the week he'll be around to have the Astra away and the wheels in the garage.

Maybe you should forget the skip in future and just leave the stuff on your drive?

I mean hes doing us a favour as you can't throw tyres into skips, but what concerns me we have an endless stream of pikies coming down the road looking on the drive.

We always have a joke at work that if theres scrap which is supposed to be taken to landfill, just stick it at the end of the estate drive and it'll be gone in the morning.

Did it with an old enamel bath once. Got my contractor to leave it in a semi-obvious position and it had gone by the next day

When I done my bathroom I put all the old tiles in the bath (metal bath) and left it outside out of my way. Couple of days later the bath had gone and they left the tiles all over the floor.

How much money do they make though out of this, a few quid? What's the point?

They collect a fair amount of it though and it all adds up. It's free money really.

We had an old bath outside before, they smashed it up to get the taps off it, was quite annoying tbf.

probably more than you think,

we collect scrap at work when we find it and last time the mixed metals went for £10 per 100kg doesnt sound much but when seperated and sorted it goes for a lot more.

when we do void clearences (thats empty houses to those who dont know) we have pikeys cutting the cables off appliences, tv's etc.

i think we have about a tonne of mixed metals now at the back of our yard after 4 months of collecting, so that will be about £100 i recon they get that every couple of days.

I imagine they do pretty well out of it. If what they weigh in gets them more than the cost of fuel they've made something.

Either that or they re-use it in some bodged construction job meaning they don't have to buy materials. We'd get off cuts of structural timber nicked off some sites for exactly that reason if contractors just dumped everything in the open.

It's actually classed as theft if they don't ask.

When i was working doing up houses, It used to save us a fortune on skips with people taking things out of them!

me and my dad took our old dryer out a couple of weeks back, my mum was going to ring the council and get them to take it so we took it onto the front for them, we had just took it out come back in and sat down and this bloke knocked on the door asking if it was scrap, it was literally within 2 or 3 minutes!

last week some different gypo's came round asking for scrap, this big ginger one was just walking up peoples gardens having a look, went up next doors path knocked on the door and seeing they werent in he took a new mountain bike that they had left out, thieving cnut

I've clocked them coming down here from the day we moved in, it's a nice area and they are always going around the roundabout looking on peoples drives to see what they can rob.
