Germans were trying to develop this in WW2

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreuzer_P._1000_Ratte

Scale compared to other tanks

They were even trying to do a bigger one, the P.1500

That is a cool idea but it would never work. It's basically just heavy artillery moved onto a vehicle that doesnt need rails. It would be too slow and too heavy though. It would never be able to get through small villages or towns either and it would be too wide to fit down country tracks so overall its a pretty useless design unless your in a massive open area It is one hell of a design though i'll give them that!

Surely though it wouldnt have been a worry they cant get down country tracks or between buildings, they just go over them instead !

Hmmm i dont know. IMO its got the weight to demolish things but not the power to demolish a row of things and then to drive over them at the same time, because once it hits one building or large tree it would lose all its momentum to then go onto demolish things shortly after that. E.g. a terrace of houses, line of large trees etc. To be honest im probably just reading far too much into it and should just enjoy the amazing design

It'd have the torque and power alongside weight to just force itself through anything, once you have momentum going it would be like a tidal wave hitting.

I don't think it would have been designed for that purpose as such

Think back to blitzkreig, pincer attacks and the like, you have there a method of getting large amount of people and weaponry into a attacking position and then having a base from which you defend and wait for reinforcements. Reinforcements arrive, they hold the land and you press further forward.

Great idea really.

It would have been fucking useless in modern warfare, it would need smaller tanks and a hell of a lot of infantry support to prevent it being out flanked and destroyed.

Someones been dreaming a bit too much with this.
