Temperature guages, on newer cars.

my mk4 golf has a temp gauge, and it doesnt move, at all, clearly it isnt exactly 80 or whatever the mid point is, so whats the point in there being a gauge at all?

rant over.

So if you are in traffic, the fans stop working and it starts over-heating you know about it and you can save the engine from destorying its self!

You also know when the engine is up to temperature and you can start giving it billy big balls..

Its only the temperature for the water though most of the time so even if the water temp is up the oil temp takes a bit longer.

Mine has a digital oil temp read out which is nice.

I saw the start of 2F2F on TV last night.

Paul Walker has 4 minutes, he smashes it straight away. Therefore it should be done, its cool, and the kids love it.

My 206 GTi has water and oil temp and oil pressure and oil level gauges as standard.

Just depends how good your car is i guess

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I thought it was the other way around!

My Fiesta one was utterly pointless, it's just bars, then stops midway, it froze the pipes over winter and the warning light to turn the car off because it's dangerously hot came on, yet the temp gauge was still sat halfway, piece of shit

So that when you're driving in the cold with the heating on you can see the needle go down as the heater cools the water too much

Im sure I remember reading that on modern VW's (may apply to others), that the water temp will sit at 90 even though it could be like 85 or 95, it will only move when there is an extreme.

I have oil temp gauge too, usually try to let oil get upto temp before I give it the beans. Its surprising how long it can take for the oil to heat up, I've done a steady 10miles before its upto temp
