Tbh you should just buy Brosters' engine. That's probably the cheapest way (Yes, really) that will be reliable without the use of forced induction!

forged pistons, steel rods, solid lifters, steel crank, throttle bodies, cams, valves
excellent exhaust etc and about Ģ7000
look on SBDEV.CO.UK or try QED

180bhp is easy. Cheaper way is, arp rod bolts, pocketed stock pistons, 288cams, tbs, bit of headwork, dual springs and steel caps and a decent ex manifold/system wil see 180 with ease.
Im building mine soon bt have steel rods, hi comp cp pistons, c16 head ported, dual springs, caps, im limited on cams as mine are long duration 285s, bike carbs but wil see 175-185bhp, after speaking to martin bowyer who got most parts off, if i go onto solids i could see just over 200bhp.
Depends on budget

My brother inlaw has a corsa 1600 in his nova which is 190 bhp, and his good friend has a fiberglass nova which is 230 bhp with a 6 speed sequential (crazy power to weight ratio)!, but to see those sort of figures you would definetely need solid lifters and throttle bodies steel rods and good pistons! and your talking a good few grand, if thats what your looking to do i'd buy a 1760 kit and get the block bored i know someone who's done this also and it doesnt half go!

i did 190bhp with standard bottom end, just ported head, 288 cams, std lifters, bodies and management.
then i built an engine good for 240bhp, that cost me lots! its now forsale.....

Nah, that would blow the welds on the intake.

If you are using ethanol it will be piss easy to get 180bhp, you can use very advanced ignition timing.

this should see 220 bhp if built correctly and be strong with all the steel bits as it will be reving high

i had 160bhp with a standard x16xe and just throttle bodies, cams with standard lifters and a 4 branch would see 190 as broster said.
