Seen 2 threads now about cats/kittens, so I want a few pointers for those have brought up Cats from Kittens, as I'm getting a kitten for the missus of my mate next week or so.
So
What do I feed them?
Do they need any injections?
Do I buy it any toys?
Do I buy it a scratch post?
The only thing is the missus lives in a upstiars flat, it'll be ok won't it as she onlty has a front garden suppose it'll venture off for a while (once grown a bit) then come back later on?

Judging by the 1st question, i would strongly urge you not to get an animal.

tbh, I wouldn't buy a pet as a present for someone.
Get a rescue one from the RSPCA if you do get one.

I'd never buy anyone a pet without speaking to them first, any pet takes a lot of looking after and some people just can't be arsed with it.

wouldn't recommend it as a surprise
in the first year they'll wreck everything - curtains, sofas etc
need a lot of supervision

wow lots of jokers on here, why is asking what to feed it so bad, he might have meant what specific brand of food, dried or wet, is there difference to adult food, can you give it treats like tuna or chicken when young ect.
you feed it on "kitten cat food" not the normal adult cat food for the first few months then it later moves over to adult food, its best to have a mixture of dried and wet food, i just keep the dried stuff out all the time and the tinned gets put out at specific meal times.
yes they need injections, there are two sets you need, not sure of the weeks but i think one is at 6 weeks and the other is 12 weeks, ask your vet. Do not let it out without its injections.
yes buy it toys and yes buy it a scratch post, kittens get quite bored and listless if they are not stimulated properly. Although my cat likes playing with bits of string more than anything, but you should make a habbit of playing with it at least 3 times a day for 15 mins a time.
As for them destoying things ect, well they usually do that if there bored, try to tire them out and there not to bad. its also important to get them to behave how you want from the start, meaning if it startst to scratch on anything move is straight away onto its scratch posts. you can also get spray on stuff to keep them away from places.
if it starts doing something your not happy about, spray it with water everytime they soon learn to stop doing whatever it is. Also try to not let them bite/scratch/play with your bare skin as this habbit follows them into adult hood, it may be cute having a cat nip you when there a kitten but not so much when there an adult.
Make sure to get it spayed/nutered as soon as possible it not only calms them down a lot it stops behaviour such as spraying amongst other things.
And dont let it out the house for a good couple of months till its fully used to the house, then introduce them to the garden slowly with supervision, most cats dont venture very far any way but make sure you get it chipped and a collar on it incase it goes missing.
