Just come across this in my local scrapyard a opel kadett D, Any way my question is can it be saved as it looks really clean inside and out no parts missing, I've done a little research and there only seems to be a few on the road.

Would be a real shame to see it be crushed, does any one have any advice?

It may have been a scrappage scheme mobile, or be horrendously rusty underneath to the point the owner didn't see the point of getting it fixed.

It's only an old astra.

Although if it is solid underneath, get it, Clean it up, XE it and try and find an old skool interior and it should be spot on!

Looks pretty good from the outside really but there's no point trying to do anything with it until you look underneath, it could be totally fucked.

If it's in the scrapyard then there's a reason it's there and should stay there.

This is why they bring out new versions of cars, because the old ones eventually die out.

Valid point but 9 times out of 10 this isn't the case.

but just because you think a car is worthy of being scraped dosent mean someone else will think the same, iv bought plenty of cars from scrap yards with only minor problems, obviouley the previous owner didnt think it was fixable. best i had was a veccy V6 paid £100 for it, spent 30 fixing H/G and sold it for £900

I never said other people would think the same as me, I was simply pointing out that plenty of cars scrapped are scrapped for decent reasons and not just a few bent valves or whatever.

The thread just pongs of a scene-dream though - someone wanting/seeing something old school, posting it up on a site and never doing it.

DVLA say it was declared SORN on the 1sr of june untill 2011, so someone mustve declared it off the road for a reason rather than scrapping it, must be pretty decent

Id be conserned about the underseal in the engine bay, so signs of rust repair. TBH, id say leave it, it may be kool and retro, but most likly more hassle than it is worth.

I would find a mk1 astra forum and post it up/offer details?
