2k, without a doubt...
XP has no-end of driver-incompatibility problems (or it did when I used it, anyway), isn't as good for gaming as they make it out to be. Oh, and having to reinstall 7 times in 4 days doesn't do much to reinforce an impression of what should be a stable Operating System. Finally, if you're going to change any hardware in your machine, prepare for LOTS of blue-screen-crashes, it's the way XP was made (it registers every piece of hardware in your machine when you install it, so if you change anything major, it thinks it's a new machine, hence thinks you're using a copy, hence crashes itself - how's that for copy-protection).
So, 2k gets my vote, and has done for the last few months!

the first versions of XP were pants and had'nt been fully tested - but the XP on the market now is far better than 2K its a far better system and if you know what your doing you can run it to its full advantage

I have 2K on all the work PC's, but my home PC came pre-installed with XP.
XP seems to crash every now and then when it feels like it, whereas 2K seems a lot more stable.
Oh, and I know nothing about PCs....

I'd vote XP Pro personally. I'm running it (SP1) and have had no problems for a very long time now.
As others have said, it can be made to look similar to 2K Pro anyway so that's not even an issue.
Driver compatibility is much improved over earlier versions IMO.
At the end of the day, it's a revised and updated revision on the 2K kernel, I personally would strongly recommend XP Pro
(Unless we could get OS X on Intel but that's another story...)

I personally run XP at home... looks like 2K, hardware support is amazing...
...if you've got XP installed then there's no point changing.
A system is only as stable as the hardware its running on and how good a job the person running it does on the config.

Harsh, and not strictly true IMO, but funny nonetheless
