anybody have/can find me a guide for making banded steel wheels?

i have some fifteen inch 4x100 steelies and my mate, a cert welder sas
ys he will do it if i find a guide

Its easy, you cut them in half and weld a band in the middle

where do i get a band from?

is it a full ban you use or a flat strip joined on the ends..

air tight is easy hes a coded welder and makes tanks for liebher

do you buy a band or use say 2mm plate and weld it in a band? if so how do you get it perfectly round

go on e38 and buy some already done with tyres for around £500

yes they have tyres, why? and that pic has answered my question they use a strip not a band

because if you didn't have tyres, buying a set done including tyres would definitely be a cheaper option

there's a set of 8 & 8.5j 15" steels with tyres on e38 for 350ono

you wouldn't want to end up with wonky steels as a result of having a go, that's all i'm saying

steelies only cost me 20 quid mate. he makes parts that have to be super accurate so is more than capable, will just need to make a jig. if he fucks them so be it

will the tyres still fit? i want the fronts widened 2 inch and rear 3 inch... mind you will need to trial wheels on car to make sure thats viable

yes they are 185 60 15 and the wheels are at mates so not 100% on the width.

people don't want them with doughnut tyres on, ideally you'd have a 195/45 on a 8.5j etc

the tyres that come on steels usually look awful when stretched

I'd be cutting the wheel with a plasma or waterjet then measuring the exact circumfrence and cutting a plate from 3mm mild steel. Then rolling it to the same diameter as the wheel. then make up a jig to hold the two parts of the wheel straight and the desired width apart. then weld it internally for strength and externally to be ground down and flushed. If he is certed then he'll know about avoiding heat distortion so could probably do a good job. Then I'd be sealing it with the sealer used on split rims and checking the balance of it without a tyre on. if they are miles out then scrap it or put some blobs of weld inside and keep repating till it is balanced.

But that's IMO so if you do that and then die don't blame me.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

What is the law on banded steel wheels. did they not used to be illegal if you made them yourself?

thats the best sugestion of a way ive heard... they will really only be for show use anyways tbh, see how they are once done.

also banded wheels are legal
