Just a question really. Before the haters start, im not putting down either car in any way.
Speckys mental 500bhp LET Tigra. Mental little car, but it recorded 174mph yesterday at TOTB? How comes that Fiesta with about 100bhp less reached 178mph at Brunters about 3-4 years ago?
Surley the tigras more areodynamic, more power, longer gearbox? How comes a standard looking fiesta with big power can get another 4mph.
4mph at these speeds is quite a lot.
Just wondering? Does this mean the Redline setup was wrong at Brunters, or that Speckys car isn't setup for top speed?

OK, looking back, its not so standard looking
Sunnys fiesta. I thought it ran around 400bhp?

but it would wouldnt it as the heavy the object the longer it would take to reach that speed.

It does effect the acceleration yeah.
Im not sure if Sunnys fiesta would ahve been from a standing start, or whether it would have been a flat out run after coming round the bottom bends as fast as possible.
It would effect getting to the top speed, but not the top speed result. But then isn't speckys tigra stripped out to hell I think Sunnys fiesta had interior.

But if they ran out of space to get to that speed then the weight would be an issue.

specky had 1km to do it in,

doesnt acceleration and top speed go hand in hand

Thats my answer right there.
Brunters is 2 miles, which is 3+ km.

would be awesome to see what specky could hit at brunters.

The fiesta used the curve too, carried the speed round and used all the available space. Specky did it in a standing km.

not really, just how long it takes to get to that top speed,

really? so if i had a 100bhp corsa which did say 120mph , if i then put an extra ton or two of weight onto the car it would still do 120mph?

So by your reckoning a super-tanker with 100,000bhp would be the fastest thing in the world?

Weight doesn't affect the theoretical top speed but certainly makes a difference to the cars' ability to get there

Isn't it? Did they not have a challenge on Top Gear with one against a Euro fighter like the Veyron race?

That's a power issue. Look at it this way, if you had a 3 tonne car which did 150mph at the rev limit in top gear, and you halved the weight, it wouldn't get any faster top end as the gearbox won't allow it.

No, I didn't realise, and when someone has posted it make sense.
Ed, what a stupid comment to make.

If you'd explained it that weeee bit better Daimob it wouldn't have taken as many comments to get to this conclusion

yea but weight DOES have an effect on top speed then because a car that weighs say 1200kg will do 120mph , the same car added with 4 or 5 tons of weight would not reach 120mph....

Where would you add 4-5 tonnes to a car?
How can a Bentley at 2.5 tonnes do over 200mph with around 600bhp, and other cars with the similar bhp, but less weight, do simlar speeds? Sure the lighter car will get there quicker.
Comparitive, similar weights will not effect top speed.
Also, if you had a long enough road, the item weighing a few tonnes should still get to the same speed, it'll just take a lot longer to get there.
Hence why the new record car weights over 10 tonnes but still aims for 700mph.
I.E If I had a 1.6 16v Corsa, removed all the weight, it would do 119mph.
If I added weight, it would still do 119mph, it would just take a lot longer to get there as the acceleration would be hindered due to the weight.
