Urgh, on the way back from Badminton I popped into Tesco Express (the only thing on my way home that was open) to pick up something to eat, got some bacon and tomato ravioli (sp?) and a bag of salad... just wanted something quick and easy. I can safely say I didn't enjoy one bite of it, only ate it because I was famished!
Is it me or has Tesco's standard slipped? Just bang any old shite out these days? I am seriously an M&S convert for food like this, brand's i'll buy from anywhere...

Buy normal food like egg and bacon butties and a bottle of coke and your onto a winner 
On a serious note they probably dont sell a lot of the salads and stuff like that so its not worth them wasting any time and money on improving them.

Not really when M&S or Waitrose is 10-20% more expensive one some things and at least double the quality.

Their sandwiches are well worth the £1 or whatever it is for a cheese one. Im sure you can get a decent butty, crisps and a drink for £2. You cant really complain at that! Even if it does taste like shit

well considering like all supermarkets all of the ready meals are purchased and made by another company you get what you pay for, its not expensive and is fairly decent.
if you want something a little more on the M&S side of things buy items from the extra special lines.
if you pay like £1 for a sandwhich ect its not going to be anything special, but you can get the more expensive variants or like £3 ect.

Hmm, M&S sarnies are lovely.
Never even been tempted by a Tesco one, usually the bread looks soggy like its been sat in the cabinet for 3 weeks.
Sainsburys sandwiches aren't too bad though.

I usually buy branded things because you know it's usually good quality and tastes nice.
Once on a budget shop, picked up some tesco value ravioli. Astronomical mistake.
Looked on the tin before I micro'ed it. Something like 10% Dutch beef or something..
anyway, the whole thing tasted disgusting

i know someone who worked at an m&s factory thing and he said the sandwiches that come back out of date normally they put on another exp date and send it back out.
i sometimes get the egg and cress sandwich from tesco and its only a quid.

End of the day any food you havent made yourself you dont know what has gone into it or even where its come from half the time. the only way to get away from shit food is to make it yourself  I know you were in a rush but if you need something that fast get a Subway or something, not the healthiest in the world but at least you can see it being put together

my missus works as a microbiology lab technician and they test M&S's food, most foods are said to go out of date a few days before they actually do, otherwise morons eat them a day out of date anyway..
But her job is to test the food samples for dangerous bacteria (including leaving the sample at 37 degrees or whatever it is, to speed up the process so they can see what it's like in X days time), to see if it's safe for consumers to eat.
So there are tests to weasel this sort of thing out...the only problem is that it's not governed by anybody, they're entirely voluntarily by the company..and cost thousands, but if they lost a lawsuit by sending out a batch of something with salmonella in, it'd cost a lot more
But yeah, most food batches are tested regularly

Their fruit is the worst, For example I can buy a fruit salad on the 10th that "goes off " on the 14th but it will be happilly fermenting away by the 12th.. And yes it is stored in a fridge!
Same with fresh seafood and pretty much anything I've bought fresh.. I even bought some potatowedges and they were rancing when I opened them 2 days after buying.
