I was trying to get my backbox off today which was made rather hard by a rusty centre section
Anywho, I may have gotten a bit vigorous with the hammer and have weakened the bit where it goes into the backbox by the looks of it
What're the chances of it breaking before I can get a new centre put on?

I see
I need to speak to Longlife exhausts who are localish and apparently very good about getting the cat to centre silencer bit made up then I have the rest. Will probably get a backbox too as this one is starting to fall apart

The cat is part of the manifold though It must be the original exhaust which is now 6.5 years old, which would explain the epic rusting
I started it up and revved it a bit and it didn't seem louder than normal.

I've got this centre to go on, which is why I was trying to get the backbox off.
I wasn't planning on getting a new backbox but I may have to

I would be the coolest guy on the street
Nah I don't think so, pretty sure he sold the SRi backbox but his centre is still on the car with standard SXi box

That would be interesting Tunnel run?
I was originally thinking oval but nobody makes the sort of oval I'd like, they all seem to be really wide and not very tall so I was starting to sway for 3" inward rolled

I'd get a new backbox for it mate. my C with the straight through centre section and standard backbox sounded like a constapated person on the toilet

The 1.8 backbox is different to the rest though, they sounds pretty similar to Irmscher ones as far as I'm aware. Speaking of which, this is Rich's old 1.2 with the same centre I've got and 1.8 backbox - http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-4718986399289935752
I've just come across this one eBay, price seems ok. Going by this vid, it would be fairly loud with the straight through centre too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoJuup6isw8
Plus the DVLA say that's a 1.2

Nah I'm all about the inward rolled I've always preferred them. I had an Ashley 3" inward rolled on my B
This is the state of the current backbox:
So that Sniper one off eBay is looking like a good idea tbh

Awesome.
Tbh though it will make the whole process a lot easier if I can just cut the standard centre then stick the new one on and a nice new backbox. No fiddling about trying to get a broken off piece of rusty pipe out of the standard box which is falling to pieces

You still enjoying your 1.8 Dave?
I'm thinking of chopping in my golf when I get my flat and go back to a C again. Loved my old one but wasn't powerful enough
Would free up a bit of cash too!

I've just seen this on eBay, by the people I got my centre from. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350124102084
Works out about £20 cheaper

I had a 1.2 SXi+ (with the half leather seats). Great little car until I wrote it off at only 18 months old

Half leather Yum.
Shame If the 1.2 was too slow then the 1.8 should be plenty fast enough

Should be. My tdi is pretty nippy when I want it to be, but I'll be living like 5 minutes walk from the office so a waste to keep it.
A nice revvy petrol will be so much nicer to drive when I do have to use the car

Yeah if you're living that close to work then I wouldn't be keeping a derv tbh
Definitely You can drive it like a granny and then put your foot down when you need to
