OK, getting fairly hooked on this affiliate thing. So much so I was thinking how to open up more products and get more things bought via CS. Hopefully in everyone's interest because income for CS is good and it shouldn't cost users any more.
They have this system called ShopWindow which basically if we integrated in to CS somewhere would mean that you could find all products which are available in their product feeds and buy but CS would get the commission.
Obviously I'm putting my cards right on the table here but I think it could work. I really don't want to turn in to a money-hungry spammer but this could be fairly big and you know my penchant for not being shy if we can push the envelope a bit.
Check it out here - this is just a search for 'spanner' but it gives you a good idea of the kind of retailers/search functionality which would be present in there.
http://default.shopwindow.com/productlist.php?q=spanner&rb=4-0
Don't buy anything off there, if you're going to do that, give me the product name and I'll do you a proper link which will attract the commission.
They've even got systems so I can track who bought what and see myself which members earnt the commission, which I could turn in to extra days on your membership or something. Looks win-win for me but I'm open to debate.

Do it, if people dont want to use it then they dont have to, as it will benefit both user and the site I think it's a good thing.

brilliant imo. makes online shopping so much easier rather than trawling different websites for hours on end.
put it to a vote, that way everyone has their own say.

Hence this thread Ben, will pretty much decide on what to do based on how this goes.
Current thinking is another link in the Classifieds section that when you click on it, it'll open up that page.
Products will be primarily car related but there are other stuff in the feed which may be of interest.
Can integrate the vouchers in there as well which means stuff will be cheaper.
Was also thinking about a rating thing where you can give it points like on hotukdeals, that way you could just browse the hot stuff and not have to trawl through everything to find a bargain.

Stick it in its own section under disputes on the main forum navigator, or someowhere inbetween the rest, rather than linking it in classifieds. People tend not to look at topped threads.

Just name it free porn, everyone will look in it then and when they realise there is no porn they will cheer them selves up by saving £100 off a new TV.

Yeah I think he's given up after either claiming to do very little business or actually doing very little. I guess CS just isn't the demographic for him. Still curious about those wacky high commission figures though, some sites are getting thousands and we got nothing.

Nothing new really, effectively he/them wont insure anybody with a vx220 either
However, that is because they don't like vx220's whatsoever (very bad demograph) and I'm pretty certain (whether he admits it or not) they got business off here.
I'm not saying chase him up for monies, but there is money to be made in the same vein...this is quoted from their website by another vx220.org member, as we are a tad pissed off the admin is cashing in on that site....well 'we think'
quote: Think of all the insurance policies your members/supporters take out in the course of a year. When their car, home, travel or business insurances fall due, we can give them a quote and, if they take out a policy, we will give 25% of the commission to your organisation. This really is a commission share and it is not added to the premium.
Apparently that's a direct quotation from their website, and was posted by a well respected member of the 220 forum. To date no response from Tim.
Makes you wonder doesn't it?

that guy was up to something, dont care what anyone says, i reckon the company was/is staring at administration down the barrel of a gun, and they know this, the desperate nature of it all, and ridiculous 'deals'.
In a hope to claw back enough to keep going, or to just take as much money as they can down with them.
How can you possibly offer the cheapest insurance, to a narrow market in the first place and offer a 1/4 of a sale in commission. Sums dont add up to a company with decent cash flow ticking along nicely.
12 months i reckon and you will see them gone

sounds ok but dont wanna to ruin the site, CS works because its fast and simple and no adverts etc. Deffo agree you should make money off the site but just be careful you dont take it too far. apart from that keep up the excellent work

That sounds like the best idea IMO as it's not going to clutter up the site. Perhaps add a link to that section similar to the Pizza one

If you keep it in proportion to the Pizza one (in terms of in-your-face-ness) they I can't see many, if any, people complaining.
Its only when you go on a forum and they park adverts between posts that its irritating. Assuming you keep these things relatively discreet I'm not fussed in the slightest.

that's the worst thing about other forums. paint in the arse. if it's discreet like the pizza one, no-one will complain or moan.
