All,

You may know that I drive a standard Mk4 Golf GTi Turbo, which is a very capable car, and I am very happy with.
However, I do have a complex.

Do I spend money improving the Mk4, i.e turbo upgrade, bushes etc...

Or do I save the money, save up a touch more cash and get a Mk5 GTi.

Constuctive input welcome.

AGU - so its a 150, but its a stronger engine and the internals are more robust than the 180.

Robin - that is half of the appeal factor!

I've got a agu.
You should of got a 3 and a 5.

Mines getting mapped next couple of weeks mods exhaust, decat, induction, DV and a k03s so should be around 210bhp.

But as standard they are slow i think.

And you'll need to save what? 8k?

Well you could sort suspension and brakes for about 700, a ko3(s) hybrid with fmic, zorst and CAI will see you well into the 200's when mapped. That would be about the 2-3k area.

A Mk5 Gti with less than 60k on start from about 8.5k, Mk5 is a much better built car though

Not sure on bow well built the interiors are on the mk5's but the interior on my mk3 is much better put together than my mk4 was, no dash rattles or anything

That said, my 06 Golfs key has just this week fallen apart and the driver door lock keeps failing to open remotely (works if you use the key but the lock sticks if you use the keyfob)

Other than that it's spot on though. No squeaks or rattles and gearbox feels great despite 50k miles on it.

Agree, sorting the Mk4 out would save cash, but I do hanker over a Mk5, it has to be said.

Had quite a long discussion with a friend last night - and he was of the opinion, it would be better and more cost effective to invest in the Mk4.

Yes it does have more doors, but when looking it was the best example I could find, and its actually quite handy (must be getting old)

He is correct - so then i started looking at Passat W8's - they are very cheap now!

I have been pricing them up actually.
I managed to test drive one of those, that Wayside had on the forecourt and a Mk6 GTi as well.

All great cars, and I thought the Mk4 was good. Nothing compaired to the 5 or 6. Such improvement.

I do love an Edition 30 though...........
I think I have to be sensible however and stick with the mk4.

(Well at least for five mins anyhow!)

I've been looking at the Mk5 GT TDI. Interior seems dated in them though.

Personally if you are happy with what you have, why not spend a little on it and save a little.
