I have a really basic TV in my bedroom which has 1 aerial socket and 1 scart

However I'd like to be able to connect my PC to it so I can watch videos streamed from the internet etc, plus DVD's as I have my PC audio going out through my hi-fi.

I have looked on eBay and there seems to be plenty of VGA to Scart cables however all say they're not suitable for PC to TV.

Is there such a device/cable that can go from PC (either VGA or DVI) to TV Scart in? Would also need to be about 5 - 10 metres long.

EDIT: PC does have an S-video out port, so I guess I could connect to a scart to s-video/composite converter.

Get the s-video to scart one, cheaper, easier and definitely works.

You can get a converter from Maplins. Fairly cheap.

Does VGA to phono. Just need to get a little scart-phono thing

Will find links

That's not fairly cheap compared to a 2 quid svideo to composite cable

But an svideo cable is £2, I can't understand how spending £60 to achieve the same thing is a better option

Cheers glb but at £60 I might as well buy myself a cheap new TV from Tesco with VGA socket

I'll go down the S-video route - theoretically could do S-video to S-video as audio will be coming out of hi-fi.

It seems the ATI Control Panel has different settings for different outputs.

Don't worry, my TV is a 15" LG CRT thing from the 90's, and my monitor is a 17" CRT

It won't be any good as a monitor, on a 15" crt though it'll be fine for watching moveis.

Using a CRT as a monitor still

Yeah. My Dell TFT decided to stop working and this CRT was a spare from someone that works in IT and the company upgraded. This was brand new. I thought for £0 it'll do for the interim. 2 years later

CRT's (TV's and monitors) give me headaches now!

Svideo > Scart lead

It is possible to use a vga lead on a scart tv but as mentioned you need to convert the signal.

The difference between scart and VGA is that VGA has TTL level (5V high impedance) separate H+V syncs and Scart (RGBs) has composite low impedance (0.3V 75ohm) syncs.

RGB will always have a better result due to the lack of encoding over svideo

Maybe he just knows that.

No need to assume that if someone comes out with technical shite that its been googled.

I checked if he knew it or not by googling, he googled. It's still irrelevant.

That is the whole point of google, no point making the whole sentance, to say what i wanted to say i used ctrl c , ctrl v.

We have software in work to find the text of a document that will give you a full break down, most of the stuff on wikipedia is a cut n paste from other sites.

I am fully aware of the techinical issues with VGA to SCART as i have looked it several years ago, as this section is called GEEK DAY i felt that a mention to show that yes VGA and SCART both use RGB signals fundimently they are different due to the nature of their method of transmission.

If you do want any further information i can send you the circuit diagram of the VGA to SCART convertor.

Much cheaper than the maplin job, approx 3 quid to build.
