I've got the option to buy a 307 2.0 HDI Rapier for less than a grand and I'm tempted to replace my Megane with something a bit cheaper so I can get the cash out of it as the Megane probably worth £4k or so and it seems pointless losing that in depreciation on a car I use for driving to work in!
Same as this:
I've driven the 2.0 HDi 206 and its pretty pokey for an oil burner and not that bad on fuel but the 307 is a lot heavier and more brick shaped so I'm wondering what the MPG's are like? On paper is more expensive to run that my Megane which is obscenely cheap but obviously I have to take into consideration the £4k value which could be much better spent on other things!
Opinions on the 307?

They're horrible to drive. Its like driving a people carrier. And sluggish.

Thats not really the sort opinion I was looking for I drive a 1.5dci Megane II which is even slower!
Its purely for driving to work and nothing else... Comfort and economy is important going fast isnt.

Ok I accept your opinion lol! But Its not exactly relivant when I'm talking about a comfy, economical, cheap car
If someone was asking for opinions on a Ferrari 430 I wouldnt point out the limited storage capacity for shopping bags and the restricted head room would I? lol

I agree with MWG though, I don't like them, they feel like a massive van with how high you sit and how big the dash and windscreen are, however, good economy on them iirc.

Get a quote for a rear disc... Hub and disc complete unit £70 each
Head gasket went on mine... Had to take engine out as its so tight on the bulk head.
Partical filter £200
Some bits are cheap. Most are shocking.

It's a grand and it'll do the same job as the cost which will earn you four grand.
No brainer.
Reliability issues are not the end of the world if you can fix it and have other cars anyway.

Id buy it.
My dad has a 04 plate one. done 125k seems sound. Its only the 90 bhp model though and is dog slow
But it cruises along nicely and he only does pure town milage and does over 400 miles to a tank ( He doesnt no how to drive 'economically' either).
Id do it for the money!
