My teeth are in pretty good nick, good gums, clean, Wisdom Teeth are coming through fine, one crown but no other fillings and fairly white but they're not straight and I hate them. I'm really, really self conscious about them - Is it weird for a 27+ year old to have a brace and what options are available to me

It's a lot more common now than it ever was, in fact you see more 'grown ups' wearing them than kids these days.

I'm realy self conscious about them, I'll either not smile or turn my head to the side when speaking to people or hide my mouth. Everyone says you can't even see them but I can and it bugs me loads.

As we said the other week Ed, judge a nice girl by her teeth

I used to work with a girl that had them at that age and know another who's 23 IIRC that has a retainer thing now
My mrs was saying at the weekend she wants them, not cheap though

I had them when I was a youngster. Had treatment for about 6 years in the end. I just wish I wore the retainer more as they aren't as straight as they could be

any more details?

I've always said to myself I'll get it done one day... What actually puts me off is the thought of over a year with them on. When people talk about wearing them for 6-7 years I think fuck that.

I had them when I was in school, should have worn the retainer for longer afterwards really as a couple have gone wonky again but it's so much better than before that I'm not that bothered.

Do it though mate, one of the directors at work has just got them and he must be in his mid-late thirties I reckon. Certainly no younger.

same as me used to always break the metal wire aswell when eating chicken the bloke got well pissed off with me in the end.

you look like a right metal mouth twat with them on and you will feel very self-concious, but definitely worth doing.

Yeah thats the problem, at school you dont think about what they'll look like when your older. It's more a case of not wanting to look a spaz

I dont think there is anything wrong with it at any age.
My friend Leah is 21 and she's just had them put on, to be honest i dont even notice them on her and she's constantly smiling although she said she wouldnt whilst they were on.

It's fine. My mums friend had them and she's like 40. She's fit aswell. Who cares. The fact you try so hard to hide them probably draws more attention to them. I had braces for a 8 months. But retainer for two years (was meant to any way)

I want braces. I ABSOLUTELY HATE my teeth. had them when I was younger but they have moved a bit, so have the slightly 'goofy' look. Really self conscious about it. I enquired about it, but too much £££. Wouldn't think twice about having braces at my age (24)

I went for a consultation with invisalign, they take an imprint of you teeth and then send them off. The clear 'retainers' are made specially, and you get a new set every 2 weeks that gradually over time change the position of your teeth. Depending on how bad your teeth are to start with will determine how many sets you need and therefore the amount of time it will take and the cost.

For me it was about £2400 which I couldn't afford but a friend of mine had them done for his wedding.

They even do a 3D computerised image of what your teeth will be like at the end.

I read reviews of people who have previously had it done on the net, they say that it can be really painful for the first few days everytime you get a new set and sometimes they have to glue little lumps to your teeth

Plus you have to wear them forever at night, even after the treatment to prevent them naturally going back to how they were.

I might be getting this done now. £2500 including a retainer for after the treatment, half of it on interest free finance. Hopefully done for my wedding in November next year.
