Now as some of you probably know I've been living up in the Midlands for just under 3 years now. I'm fairly used to hearing (and understanding) different people's accents from most parts of the UK, but why is it that some people from Birmingham and in particular the Black Country have really thick (i.e. heavy, not stupid) accents - especially older generations? 
I sometimes have to process what they are saying and translate it in my head first before replying

Also, a friend of ours who is a Brummie refers to Black Country folk as "yam yams" WTF is that all about?

When people put on a 'brummie' accent, what they're referring to is a yam yam which is someone who says babs a lot and speaks a bit like Ozzy Osbourne.

Stoke accents; i.e. a true Potters accent is almost impossible to decipher; its dying out now as the younger generation put a weird chavvy twang on it and ending up sounding half scouse but the older generation pot herbs are fucking diffiuclt to understandunless you're from Stoke

Just checked here, they call each other that name by the sounds of things? Like I say, our friend is a Brummie and that's what she refers to Black Country people as. confused.com

Brummie = Birmignham
Black Country = Dudley/Wolvo.
Hate it when people get those two mixed up.

Certainly been an experience living round these here parts. Think next time we move house it'll probably be to Worcester - can understand people round that way (and I'll be closer to Steve xXx).

A Lot of my family are Brummies.
My Uncle came up to mine a few weeks ago to visit a grave, and stayed over.
The 12 hours I was with him, I probably understood around 6. It gets to the point where you don't want to say "What?" or "Pardon" any more

Some lad I used to drink with (a mates brother) met some smelly old skank from Dudley. She came up for the weekend, honestly she stunk and was about 40. Moral of the story, people from Dudley stink and can't speak

Dudley's accent is pretty hard to understand, they usually talk that quick its impossible lol.
I can usually understand most Midlands accents though.

I have lots of friends from Dudley/Stourbridge/Wolvo area and my girlfriend is from Kingswinford. I thought she spoke pretty normal until she was on Central News talking and I realised how strong her accent was! I love the Black Country accent makes me feel homely whenever I hear on TV/ Radio.
Seriously, you wanna get over to Kidderminster if you wanna hear strange accents. Its like half Black Country half Worcester shit kicker

I agree with the Bewdley nightime statement - drunken fuckwits love breaking people's wing mirrors and wipers there 
People (also drunk I suspect) also seem to have a habit of driving into the bridge on Load Street for some reason, every time I go to Bewdley they are always repairing it for that reason!

I've only ever been to Stourport a couple of times, one of those was to some posh part of Stourport to fix someone's Internet connection.
