The Jag owners magazine came through the other day with a special all about this Concept; It looks awesome IMO Tata taking them over really is a brilliant thing on the surface....
Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaF9iYw--QI
quote: Jaguar is marking its 75th anniversary with what it describes as 'a glimpse into the future' – a 205mph supercar with zero tailpipe emissions
The C-X75 is a four-wheel-drive range-extender electric two-seater with two micro-turbines that act as generators for the car's electric motor when the battery charge has been exhausted. The micro-turbines, which can be fuelled by any fossil fuel, never drive the car, unlike the turbines in an aircraft jet engine
Four 145-kilowatt (195bhp) electric motors mounted inboard of each wheel drive the car. Jaguar quotes a range of 68 miles on a full charge, but the micro-turbines extend this to more than 550 miles. Even in range-extender mode CO2 emissions are just 28g/km – less than a third of the best fossil-fuelled city car (the Smart Fortwo diesel) currently on sale in the UK.
The twin turbines can automatically charge the car's batteries on the move or, in track mode, take it to a maximum speed of 205mph. Jaguar quotes a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds – a match for the best V12 supercar on sale today.

Jag have bought the company that makes the turbine for that car, they've also got a few XF's with Lotus Omnivore's in them - they're kinda noisy though

How the hell is it zero tailpipe emissions?
Also, I'm sick of the power figure being misquoted. If its 195bhp per motor and 95bhp per turbine, as the turbines charge the batteries which power the motors, the total output is 780bhp, not 970bhp.
That's like saying a freelander with a horsebox has 1bhp more than it does ffs.
Anyway, nice car.

so are they quoting the power of stuff that doesn't make it to the wheels?
like putting a 15hp compressor in my boot and quoting that?

I know, but I can hope and dream or make one out of a corsa, some expanding foam and wide arches - which reminds em, whatever happened to PetherDick?

But, the guys at Gaydon are doing some interesting stuff at the moment, so who knows what will be rolling out over the next few years.

I don't know how it works so can't be sure, it does say that normally they are used to charge the batteries but in track mode are used to take it to 205mph, suggesting they supplement the batteries in track mode.

The idea is that they are a range extender normally, but when you want full power they generate the power like a diesel electric train. As you said...
