my mate advised me not to buy that one, sure he said it wasnt a face off anyway he changed my mind about it cuz hed had a few back in that he sold! go for an alpine head unit for around that price range, better quality!

The Pioneer IS a face-off. I used to work in Halford and we took it off. BUT the motor for the flip down face is dodgy. They kept breaking down. This happened about once every 2-3 months. I would say go with an Alpine, they are good sound quality but dont have the flashy looks of the Pioneer. You could always go for a Nakamichi, admittedly they dont look all that, BUT they are wicked quality. Or try the Kenwood Z838MP headunit, they got the looks.

Hope this helped.

Steve.

Those units are well bad, overpriced and much better available for the money. What about a Kenwood KDC-8081 (i think) thats got flashy lights and stuff. The pioneer has the top face that comes off, then leaves a black metal base plate behind, covering up the second face.

The pioneer 8400 was recalled a while back as the front faces had dodgy connections.

Or like snowy said, try Alpine or Nakamichi, but being a girl and all that, you'll probably just want one with flashy lights and things.

corb - you might be in a bit of trouble with the girlz now. Bravogirl just told me to say "Shut the fook up". She has a nice rockford HU which is very good. No flashing lights but looks real KOOL>

Vibs - Stick with what you know...........errrmmm what is that????? GAYS n DOGS

I was thinking the JVC one too Vibrio - a particularly tasty MP3-compatible one.

However, if people are having a hard enough time coping with Pioneer being a crap choice of headunit, they're hardly going to welcome the "unkool" yet superior JVC units.

That 'girls' comment was made on the basis of how 95% (at least) of females who come into the store and see that unit react, including my sister. As for the other 5%, 4% arent interested and 1% give a damn about how good a unit they are buying. Sorry Steve's bird

Alpine CDA-7894RB

Everything you could want from a head unit, nice looking without being tacky (IMO), good build quality, superb sound quality and more features than you can shake a stick at
