Vauxhall Corsa VXR or Mini Cooper S
It wouldn't be brand new, so bear in mind that an 07 plate VXR would be about £2-3k cheaper than a Cooper S with equivalent mileage and same age.
I love how they both look, they're both small turbo engines, both "hot hatches" and i'd find it hard which one to choose out of the two.

Cooper S - not because I own one as its a totally different engine for starters, but build quality is better and it has more character imo.

Oh and if it bothers you, you'll be regarded as less of a chav as near enough every well off family has a Cooper S as the runaround these days

I would have the Corsa, simply because I don't really like the image of the Mini.

Quite alright mate! Obviously i'd have a Corrado over both of them though.
To be honest the image the Mini gives, such as 'pretty boy' doesn't both me as i don't think anyone could call me a pretty boy

You did ask 'Which would you choose and why?'
Thats why I'd have the Corsa, i'm too cramped in a Mini
I'm also 6'4", but 'portly'....

A Corsa does seem more tempting because you can get one a lot newer than a Mini at the equivalent price... £9000 for an 08 Corsa or an 06 Mini

I'm with Rich H on this one, not only because he has the same initials as me, and drives the same car as me (in fact, stop stalking me!) but in terms of the build quality, reliability, the mini is a world ahead, it'll depreciate less as well.
That said, if you ever use your boot for carrying more than your lunch box, buy the VXR!

like you say, thats the obvious choice
better image than both of them, and probably a bit faster

To be honest i'd love a Corrado but i want something newer than what i've already got. I keep seeing one around near me thats sat on its tatties with BBS wheels and yellow headlights etc, not quite to everyones taste but it does look mint.

I'd prob go for the corsa, only thing that puts me off the mini is despite the decent build quality, my mates with them seem to be getting massive bills I'd more associate with a fast Beemer than a hot hatch
