i remember this time of year from last year, when a few idiots didn't have antifreeze in car and ruined parts of engine trying to start them.
Just a heads up really as i'm a nice chap.
So MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANTI FREEZE AND NOT PLAIN WATER IN YOUR ENGINE

A good tip that was in PPC mag was to take off the small overflow hose from the header tank (The one that comes from the rad) put that into a bucket and then fill the header tank as normal until the new coolant comes through, or until you run out/happy there is enough in.
Saves getting airlocks that way apparently.

Im one of the idiots that didnt put antifreeze in mine, popped the rad and thermostat housing and I tried to start it and the waterpump was solid and the cambelt slipped.
I had been meaning to put antifreeze in but leaving in the morning before anywhere was open and getting home after everything was shut, so yea Im an idiot.

its good to know whats in your system, some anti freezes say not to mix with other types. (not sure how important this is)
you can get a simple test kit that tells you what ratio you have

If unsure might as well, drain and fill with new stuff anyway cost less than £10 for anti-freeze.

If you don't know, just drain it and fill it, make sure you find out what colour you're meant to have

Colour's not got much to do with it tbh. At the weekend I went down to the local motorfactors, asked for the cheapest stuff they do (which was -35degrees protection at 50%) and I'm going to bung that in.
It's anti freeze, as long as it keeps your water in liquid form and has some sort of rust protection it doesn't matter what type it is.
