never done it before but going to get some of that gunk stuff , am i correct in saying that just a case of sealing off all electrics or sockets and applying it and agitating it then rinsing off? what do people use to protect wiring and electrics?

also can a pressure washer be used to remove it safely? should engine be kept running whilst doing it? only i see the polish people jet washing peoples engines the other day and they dont protect anything

As long as you don't use bucket loads you would probably get away with this. But I've heard of people with problems with their cars cutting out and generally fucking up after doing it.

Whenever I do it it's just a case of some poly bags over the battery, fuel rail, coil, dis-pack and AFM.

I'd say it's the opposite tbh. Like when you're fording deep water, you keep the revs up a bit. I usually turn on the engine as said while rinsing it.

I've never protected anything on any car when pressure washing the engine and never had any problems.

Eh? What happens when it rains?? Does the engine and all the components stay dry? Just use truck wash (what I use anyway, some sort of heavy duty grime lifter) and jet off at a sensible distance, obviously if you jet everything off about holding the jet an inch away you will get problems.

this is my reason behind saying it, what is running the engine going to do? if waters going to get into anything it will regardless of whether the engine is running

I have used gunk which is good but the autoglym stuff is much better and safe if you get it on paint.

Have a huge tub of it if you wanna borrow a splash

If the engine's running there's less chance of water build up, less chance of it sitting in one place due to heat etc. It can't hurt to have it on anyway, might as well.
