bin looking at the clio sports for a new car and just wanted to know what the exact difference is between the cup models and non cup ones apart from the alloys and are they worth the extra money more you can spend on one rarther to just a normal 172 clio??

Alot lighter mate and no ABS on the cup.
No climate, leather, auto lights/wipers, xenons etc...
Ive got a cup and ive never wished id gone for the normal 172. Drive one, you'll love it!

Ive got a 182, i went for the normal ff (full fat) version with the xenons, auto wipers, climate/cruise control.
Im glad i went for it. It might be the tinyest bit slower than the Cup, but for what i use it for, it makes no difference, its still fast enough for me

Full fat 182 with cup packs is the pick of the bunch IMO

172 cup is meant to be the pureists choice and they all slag off the 182cup. That doesn't mean it's bad as if you listened to them you would have the SAS or any NASA qualified scientist to change your Cambelt!!

The 'Cup' is completely pointless in the real world IMO
FF 182 with both cup packs (like i've had) and your onto a winner

I had a 172 Cup, which had cloth seats, no A/C, ABS, spare wheel, extra spoilers, and better handling.
It was great fun to drive, but not put together very well

They don't look better. They just get you e-points.
Ph2 is far better and even then they aren't as good as phase 3s

clearly not, as a ph2 isnt 10 year old to compare the two.
Sooo like i said, a ph1 has more road presence than a ph2

I'm pretty old, but I still think the ph1 is a better looking car, I never liked the headlights on the later ones.

Sunflower yellow ph1s are nice.
I always thought all 182s came with auto wipers, xenons etc but you were able to upgrade the suspension, wheel colour, spoiler and additional front splitter if you wanted to classify it as a cup.

For someone like me it was perfect, the best compromise for road and track. They handle fantastically well and they are quicker than other 172s. Id always feel handicapped in a full fat.

I agree with Mr Nut, unless you will be tracking it constantly, might as well have some luxuries, it's not quicker than any other full fat one on the road.
This whole ph1 thing, I know looks are a matter of opinion, the only people who ever think ph1's look better are people with them though, they look mega mega dated whether you like that or not.
As a car, built from tinfoil and some plastic, although it'll do 60 in 7 seconds, it's a boring 7 seconds.

like you said john, it is a matter of opinion. It would be boring if everyone liked the same thing.
How do you mean, it's a boring 7 seconds to 60? Its a 2.0l and revs to 7.2k standard. Its quite fun i think.

It's a drivers car John, you have to rev it. It's not a lane hopping rep mobile. Its one of the most rewarding cars I've ever driven. So much so that when I had the M3 and the Clio on the drive 9/10 I'd take the keys to the Clio.
It's not built for straight line drag racing it's a cheap town car that does exactly what it says on the tin.
As for phase1s John is exactly right the people who say phase1s are the best are people who own them. Go figure.
They look crap. No other word for it tbh 
There is 1 I've liked and that was some French dudes one on Cliosport
