Cars sat for about 4 days unused, was going to go to Vauxhall tomorrow for coolant and do a flush.

Mate phoned needing a tow and i am the only person he knows with a bar.

Hop in the XE turn it over with a not very nice noise, every fucking pipes frozen solid, only turned it for a few seconds so hopefully havent done any serious damage.

Suppose its my own fault, just a wee warning to prevent everyone else fucking up.

I'm a mechanic so i should know better

You should be fine mate, when mine was frozen it was as if the battery was flat, wouldn't even let it turn over. Just don't assume it's a flat battery and try to bump start it like some dafty I know did

I don't understand how... every car here has a 50/50 mix (or more like 55/45 mix if I filled it) of coolant/water, it's not diffiuclt!

One cup of coolant, one cup of water.

They all got changed anyway, most just fell to pieces as I took them out. Was a total pain in the arse.

Been told to be careful which coolants to buy incase my head goes porous, hence running it on water.

VW G-12 i've been advised to use.

Think its the gaskets that react tbh, someone told me that why alot of rovers die aswell, along with a few other things

Id guess water would be more likely to corrode a head causing it to go porous than antifreeze.

Ive done it before though, 9 valves a few guide, thermostat housing cracked, burst my rad and popped a core plug.
