The only times I don't sleep is if its too warm or if I start counting the amount of sleep I'm going to get. The second I think "ffs I'm only going to get 5 hours at this rate" thats it, I may aswell just get up & do something.

If you cant sleep after 30/45 minutes I'm told the best thing to do is open your bedroom window, leave the room for 10/15 minutes then come back & try again. Also only use your bed for sleep, if you use it for anything else your mind plays tricks on your & its harder to nod off. I had that problem last winter when I just lay in it all the time watching TV

I find reading a book before hand sometimes helps, sometimes I put a relaxing album on the iPod, lie in the darkness and that'll put me to sleep, doesn't always work. I work shifts and I have that problem a lot

I went through a bad stage of this. Think it was more of a habit in the end though, TV on, Laptop On etc.... Turn everything off, have a wank and you'll soon nod off.

Make the bed, don't use it for anything else but sleeping at Matty G said, lay off the laptop before bed as well.

Reading doesn't really help me but does others... just gotta try and find your pattern

Only thing that stops me from sleeping at night is sleeping during the day / evening.

If I am awake all day and keep myself occupised between 6 - 8 in the evening i'm out like a light at 12

If I do have a powernap then i'm awake till gone 2am

Yeah, for the last year but gotten worse over the last couple of months.
Every night is the same, go to bed when I'm tired (around 1-2am) but don't actually fall asleep til around 7am and thats if I sleep at all. Last night I didn't.

I'm into this habbit. Busy with work during the day, until I get home and sit down. I always end up feeling drowzy and end up having an hour kip, but usually turns into 2 or 3 hours and I end up awake till about 2 or 3am playing games.

I could of spent those hours asleep doing something productive, like.. working out. Could be buff by now instead of a lazy shit that I am :\

i doubt any one has insomnia

usually the cause is poor sleep patterns, staying up wasting time on a night having short periods of sleep then sleeping odd hours during the day and repeating the cycle.

set a time to go to sleep, turn all distractions off and stick to it everyday, dont sleep during the day and your sleep pattern returns to normal.

you would know if you genuienly had insomnia as you just dont sleep for long periods at all, days at a time.

I was in hosptial over night for a hernia and got offered Temazepam - at first I declined but when I couldn't get to sleep for the sounds of the guy in the next bed wailing in pain I took them up on it. I woke up during the night (at least I think I did) and the ceiling tiles started moving around and spinning, was pretty funny. Helped me sleep to boot as well.
