Hello

i just bought an evo and i was thinking on cold mornings it would be easier to start the engine and wait for it to warm up while i gte ready for work

the question is it has a non standard imobiliser so would that effect the remote start and what system could i use (i dont want a full alarm like a clifford as the one on at the min is mint)

thanks

Why? Sure you were supposed to just get in cars and go.

Yeah and? Warm it up before work you said, I'm not thick. No modern car user manual tells you to warm the car up first.

Look, I don't want an argument, just what I've been told and read countless times

quote:
You need to warm your car before starting out in cold weather: FALSE.
Idling isn't an effective way to warm up your car in the winter -- driving away is. Today's engine and fluid technology is designed to start working as soon as you turn the key (or at lease once your windshield is defrosted). Not only does idling waste gas and cause pollution, it can actually cause damage to your vehicle.

ok well u can de ice your car and watch the windows fog up, when you could just press a button in bed, put on your cloths and step out into a nice warm car plus its better for the engine to warm up on tick over

dont start calling people names, dont act like a little boy

yeah maybe on a little corsa 1.2 engine but im on about an evo engine which is far better than a 1.2
so your saying driving the car revving to 2500rpm on the same oil as it would at 100rpm on idle is better to warm it up......im not going to try it

The evo should be started and driven away the same as a 1.2 corsa, de-icing etc is a different matter though.

This is the real reason for remote start... if fitted correctly, it will turn on your heated seats/windows/mirrors etc.. aswell as put the heaters on. I've had it on most of my cars and I really miss it, it's such a nice luxury this time of year.

Also good in summer if you want to have the car cool down with the A/C before you get in it... esp if you have sweaty leather seats.

I think some people are misunderstanding Robo's 1st post... I don't think he's talking about warming the engine so it's ok to drive it, but rather warming the inside of the car & defrost the windows so it's more comfortable for him to drive it...

It also saves time because you're not spending time scraping the windows and waiting for the insides to de-mist.

I may be wrong though? - Robo??

I didn't set out to be, but loads of school kids jumped out of the woodwork and started calling me names and laughing at fact. Then Robo said "plus its better for the engine to warm up on tick over", which isn't necessarily true. I have no problem with Robo and clearly I'm upsetting his thread so I won't post any more about it

My advice to the original question would be to speak to an alarm technician, chances are whatever system you currently have would have an additional bit of kit you can bolt on.

It will be difficult I think to have remote start on the Evo because of the clutch issue, I used to just go into the car in the morning and let it tick over for 10 mins, it was nice and warm after and the car came up to temp much quicker.

How the hell did this thread go so fucked up?? Simple question...Auto Start is awesome in the winter wether it's to stop you freezing your arse outside or for your engine.

If it's left running though an your not in it, and gets nicked, then insurance won't pay out.
