Car has that stupid kangarooing problem that just about every X16XE has. Anyway, under load at low revs its holding back and feels like it's misfiring.

When it's cold it is fine, it's not throwing up any engine management light and I've already checked the CTS and it's fine.

I took the plugs out last night and they are quite oily, it is burning oil as well as it can smell it. Could this cause it to misfire? These engines are known to burn oil.

I doubt it's any of the sensors as there is no EML and I'm not going through removing the inlet and replacing everything but I do have the following just in case

2x EGR valves
3x Idle control valves
2x Throttle position switch
2x Lamba sensor (3 wire C16 & 1 wire X16)
1x Crank shaft sensor
1x Air temp sensor
1x Coolant temp sensor
1x ECU
1x Upper inlet manifold
2x Fuel injector rails
2x Engine loom
1x Power steering pump
2x Throttle bodies
1x Throttle cable
1x Clutch cable
1x Set of spark plugs
1x Coil pack
2x Set of leads
1x C16XE AFM
1x F15 gearbox with driveshafts

clean the AFM and make sure air filter isnt filthy?

i would check those first and then go for spark plugs /coil pack/leads

misfiring usually is one of the above from my own experience

Doesn't have AFM, has air temp and MAF instead but if one of them was faulty it would throw up a EML.

HG is my opinion as well, leaking oil into the cylinders.

Stem seals always go on these, but it's not a smokey one like my old GSi.

on my gsi i had a problem with the MAF thing on the air filter, didnt throw up any EML , bought some of that isopropyl cleaner stuff and run a dream

You mean the air temp sensor on the pipe to the air filter? I might try that next but I doubt that would cause it to run like it does TBH.

Just seems weird that on the motorway at like 3,000 RPM it runs lovely and pulls fine.

EGR or lamda...

pop in new plugs and see if that helps... if not see above.

May as well swap the easy sensors methodically if you cant trace the problem

i know it is not related but on my mondeo, had EXACTLY the same problems as you are descriving and changing the spark plugs and leads fixed it.

used to hesitate and judder at low revs and then when it got past it would pull fine. Maybe also regap the spark plugs?

i had this issue on mine, it had been sat for ages, gave it a good service and it solved it, the fuel filter was my guess! just serviced it and hope for the best, job done!

I think I'm going to have to get busy with it this weekend.

Need a new inlet manifold gasket if I'm doing the EGR.

I would have said plugs/leads/coil pack, but as your plugs are oily I'd go with head gasket.

Have you checked the cat? My Vectra was doing this, and it turned out the manifold had a crack in it and the cat was completely collapsed inside.

EML though? Or not? I'm going to dismantle it as when it's ok it drives fine.

My corsa sport has a EGR problem, sometimes it holds back, is lumpy. EML only comes on when it gets stuck completely open

Maybe start with service items like plugs, leads and filters cause I presume you would be changing them anywY unless you already have? If youve got all the spare sensors there then a case of trial and error? Could a sensor be faulty but not register with the ecu for eml to show?

I'm going to do plugs and leads tonight, I have some original GM ones which are stupidly expensive as spares from my Nova.

Then I'll do EGR, could be stuck open
If it seizes up, then it will dump CO/CO2 into the engine at lower RPM and this will make the emission levels rise.

It also has the effect by reducing the available oxygen in the unburnt gases of reducing the cars performance slightly at lower RPM (I say slightly)
