My nephew has this to solve on his maths homework. I'll freely admit that my maths is crap, but none of us can figure it out Someone shed some light?
quote: There are 26 boys in a class. 21 are right handed. If one of the boys wears glasses, what is the least number of right handed boys in the class that could be wearing glasses?
Huh?

It looks like the question is written down incorrectly. I'm going to go with '2' as the answer, on the basis that its not been typed out correctly

This is what I thought, but surely it can't be that easy? There's nothing to work out
I think the question has been written wrongly.

The answer to that one is zero.
If you increase the number of boys wearing glasses, you then need to offset that against the number of left handed boys until you get a positive number.
Basically number of boys wearing glasses minus 5 with a lower bound of zero.

Makes perfect sense as-is, if you have one boy wearing glasses and potentially 5 left handed boys, the number of right handed boys could be zero at it lowest point.

The teacher is allowed to alter the question btw, there are no rules against that. In fact I would probably do the same and discipline everyone who Googled the question and answered with the number 5.
Although that becomes less of a maths question and more of a psychology one. Depends what you're assessing

Surely the answer is just zero?
Bit of a trick question and not a lot to do with maths

I'd say...
A) One
and
B) Whoever worded the question was drunk or stupid or both or similar when they did so.

question isn't very well written.
the answer is 0, as it doesn't specify that the one child with glasses is right handed, although it does read that way, because (as i said) question is poorly written

This. No idea what the rest of the question is going on about as it's nothing to do with the answer.

Yeah but surely because it says "the least that could be wearing glasses" that means 1 as you can't really have 0 people could wear glasses?
