What would the prefered route be for you?
I'm thinking of sticking the the X16XE just because of the spare parts I have, going down the inlet/unichip route and having the weight out of it and as the engine is designed for the car it makes life easy.
I will use it on the road a fair amount as well so don't want it silly suspension wise. I've ordered some Bilstein B4's but when I changed the wheels the other day someone has already put some on so will be sending them back. Coilovers? But not back breaking ones.
Got polybushes that require fitting already.

Would have to be an x16xe as it would be so cheap and easy to make smart. Nothing really needs to be custom made which is also incredibly handy, it was such a pain with my redtop and x18xe1. I would have to buy proper coilovers as shit ones really are so shit, the bilstein would be fine wouldn't they? I would be more than happy with them. Get a rarb!

Yep Belton thats what puts me off going down C20XE route and always has, things tend to go wrong and bits for the car that it wasn't designed for means its gonna spend more time off the road than on.

I would go c20xe if I was to have another corsa, but x16xe are still good engines and not as slow as everyone seems to make out.

Talk to me about the springs Jr, I need to get it lower without fucking up the ride quality especially when I strip it.

From my experience Bilsteins are great for the road but a bit soft for track, mine rolled a lot but it depends how much road use it's getting. I did about 16000 miles in the 12 months upto crashing so comfort was more of a factor for me than being great on track. X16 is obviously the easiest route and as Stu proved, can be very capable. That's what I'm doing now too after getting the engine with the new shell so future battles may be in order

I don't know how you can think about fitting coilover and polybushes, getting it lowered and still expect comfort.

when i had my corsa, i was glad i kept the 1.6.
Dont go near spax suspension, the rebound on them it too harsh for the road, stick to the billsteins or something simular.
Manifold
inlet
filter
dastek ecu (runs with the standard ecu)
exhaust
i used meriva calipers and run 280mm disks, really good set up with the braided lines.
exhaust
and it will be a really good engine.

I would stick with a 16, lose some weight and just drive it faster. If the car has proper tyres and brakes then it'll be prepared enough to warrant spending a bit of time learning it.

and you can pick another 1.6 engine up for peanuts if anything does go wrong.

c20xe TBH
If you get a 1.6 you will think mmm too slow on track, then start to spend thousands to make it faster, when you could have spent the same money making a faster engine faster/ more reliable and also if you use a highly tuned 1.6 on the road you might miss the easyness and torque compared to a peaky engine.

get some bilstein coilovers on it, the b14 kit is great, comfy for road use, and great on track, added to that its awesome value for money, think they rrp at about £530ish inc vat! just waiting for my kit to turn up aswell!
id keep the 1.6, then do b14 coilovers, atb diff, bigger brakes, whiteline arb, then little engine tweaks.

Talk to me about the springs Jr, I need to get it lower without fucking up the ride quality especially when I strip it.
Its not really the springs you have to watch.. its the dampers that have to match the springs!
I've you swap springs (but a decent amount of kg/mm lb/ft) you really should get the strut re-valved to suit.
300lb spring might work well at the front but you need DECENT dampers to keep it all composed.
300mm brakes under 15/16's
Decent exhaust/manifold with Inlet.
Cams - do the usual idler swap, rob bolts at the same time so you can raise the rev limit with some confidence Also, cams... go the wildest you can on hyd lifters and standard pistons... I think some off the shelf 264's will fit
Diff - essential (how much are Tran X for F15's?)
