stuff i use is fine, its been soaking into paint around the windscreen for a week or so now

I use the tesco spray bottle one, de-ices the car instantly and never had a problem with it leaving windscreen greasy or damaging paint. Although on the bottle it does say not to get it on any paintwork as it may damage it

nor me, up until this morning i considered it because my windscreen was ice block and scraper wouldnt touch it.

ended up having to use luke warm water on it (i know youre not meant to use boiling as it can crack)

i use my underground carpark

i have never heard of any issues with deicer on paintwork but if the car needs de icing i use a scraper

same but this morning it was literally a few mm thick, scraper didnt have any effect

Seen someone pouring the kettle on a windscreen the other day, didn't stop them for the lolz of it.
I find cold water is fine as its still much warmer than ice.

I tend to turn the car on and let it defrost itself. Maybe a bit of scraping too but nothing too harsh.

The wife uses it tho on her car. But i'd rather not risk it on the Audi. Its nasty greasy horrible stuff too.

I'm preferring the trigger type spray bottle for my de-icer. It doesn't feel as cold to the touch, contains more fluid than a can for the same money and you can see how much you have left easily. Who gives a fuck what it does to your paint. I had to stop someone the other day and tell them to de-ice their windscreen or I wouldn't get out their way. Some stupid fucking dangerous people out there.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Has anyone used vasoline for door rubbers to stop them sticking together? might have to try it.

Also this isnt a thread to promote dangerous acts of not de-icing your windows, its about effective alternative methods to de-icer if it turns out that it harms your paint

I thought that de-icer stuff rots the rubber seals around the frame? No idea if its true or not.

I'm happy enough with a decent scraper.

Another option is putting a sheet/towel over windscreen but i've heard a few things about that too.
