U know that brake fluid absorbs water?... Well, what happens when the water freezes in the brake fluid?

yes good point probably a good indication your fluid needs changing, be a good idea to stick some non hydroscopic 5.1 stuff in there

you need a bleed kit, get a gunsons eezi bleed kit from halfords its only about 15 quid, then you just need the fluid
bleed each corneruntil you see the new stuff coming through, job done

No, don't need a bleeding kit either, just a mate with a leg.

if hes never done it before probs better off with a kit he end up releasing the pedal or something before hes cracked the nipples closed.
its only 15 quid and simplifies the process worth it imo

Bleed kit is about 1000x better than a mate, I spent about 20 mins trying to bleed my front brakes a while back with my brother on the pedal and was just getting constant bubbles, took about 5 mins with the bleed kit, including unboxing and setting it up, doddle

check the fluid reservoir to see if it has frozen first
If it hasn't then the handbrake has prob just frozen and as said take a hammer to it....... if the cables free
